From what I read when I saw it earlier I don't think there was anything remotely offensive *hmm*

there was some "f" swear words that i would have edited & warned the poster about the language. nothing in the offensive reports about that poster. don't think it was a mod who did it but somebody else.

'twas me. It was an offensive (to some people out there) username and the only posts by said person were full of swearing. So basically not the kind of person wanted here.

Me thinks ddp needs to brush up on his knowledge of creaky :)

And, sort of at ddp - just wondering (i thought about this after seeing all your edits in that thread about the infamous demo earlier today), how do you find threads or posts that break the rules? Do you (aside from offensive post submissions from others) have to stumble across them or can you search for posts with specific things in them (swear words etc)?

some of the mods don't have lives... all they do all day is bend their fingers and ruin their eyesight.. what do parents tell young boys about doing certain things which wreck eyesight *climbs back on chair*

of course there are a couple who are in the pay of certain businesses.. though they deny it.. we know otherwise by their responses and their friends.

I say allow all swearing.. it's funny and fun and has anybody walked past a schoolyard full of 5 year olds recently?.. I would be stretched to use any language that would shock those kids.. though I probably could if I really really really tried XD

chopping up new terms .. making hidden meanings from seemingly innocent statements.. is fun.. as are acronyms *hahahahaha*

I'll be honest, situations like that have only arisen because of attitudes like that...

Nah.. schoolyard swearing was as common in our grandparents day as it is now.. my parents swore like troopers and I don't see any need for it.. I sometimes use bad language for pure shock value, mainly because people don't expect it from me.
My grandmother could turn the air blue and only the prissy churchianity idiots had a problem.. they are all dictionary words.. the one that is seen by yanks as some kind of major taboo refers specifically to the vagina of a milk cow .. it's an Anglo Saxon word.. nothing wrong with it at all.. cows have quite nice vaginas actually.. roomy.... mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

The best fun forums I know allow all kinds of language.. and they are great to play about on. UK based of course.. where we actually still believe in freedom of speech and aren't ruled by the church prissy bedwetters any more.

check out the news coming out of Ireland about systematic rape in church run care homes.. great.. really believe the church and their ideas of "common decency" have any worth at all?

*sings* ooooooo.. you can't say c--- in Canada *giggles*

funny thing is this.. it's the yanks who keep on moaning about bad language, but it's their culture and music and films which have encouraged it's usage.. who can spell double standard?

I'm happy to use the right word for the job.. if that word happens to offend an ADULT who obviously has heard it and knows what it means.. then I suggest their reassess their values and what they consider is actually important instead of trying to force their outside ideas and rules (which by the way we don't subscribe to.. I'm European) down our throats.. Obama noticed the dislike of America in Europe.. I wonder why that is..

For me it has something to do with all their rubbish "land of the free, home of the brave" "one nation under god" "freedom of speech" etc...

Most Americans don't really care about anything outside their borders - you never know if a statistic is made up or not these days but i heard that nearly a fifth of Americans can't even point to America on a world map ;)

I'm not sure I believe that.. isn't it standard to program the "bush yoof" to stand and salute the flag? click me for funny but political pic

I'm still waiting to see any change in foreign policy from the new junta.

better find some incoherent stuff (console forums should suffice) before we get too far off topic. ;) ^6 shouted ya too :)

creaky had this one... is it code or is it a memorex audio cd-r?

Allow me, i grow up with these people so i have to at least understand it ;)

Haha; he wonders if he'll get banned from Xbox Live if he uses pirated games, and, if such a thing were to happen, would there be any way he could rectify the situation :p

I swear like a trooper, especially the one word that is taboo above all others. However it has no place on screen. Everyone's different, for example we deliberately brought up our kids up with no swearing in the house. I have friends with kids who are the exact opposite, they have brought their kids up with every other word being an expletive. Their choice, i prefer mine. My kids know that it's simply not acceptable to use bad language in certain situations/places; however my kids are getting older (can't stop 'em, do fairies appear in the night dusting the place with growing potion ?, wish i could catch 'em) and they're happy playing GTA 4 (my girls find the game/language/murderous situations hilarious - proof they are well balanced), watching movies full of bad language etc, i have no problem with these things. It's just language on screen that is unnecessary.
My best analogy is text speak or slang speak - just because people talk a certain way doesn't mean they have to type the same way (another example appeared in my head - think of people with strong accents, for instance Irish boy bands, they don't sing how they talk do they).
Mild words are fine, but strong words are not. Just because a post (maybe) conveys feelings at the time the post was written does not mean it should be peppered with inappropriate content/language, plus a post can be on screen for years to come. It's all about maturity at the end of the day, this isn't like ten a penny websites out there where foul language is every other word :)

My sentiments exactly, that's the only bit i understood
