I'm trying to fix my friends' PC and I had to reformat the HD. But now that I', trying to load XP it says it can't due to "incorrect system type". WTF?! Please advise.

The only thing I can think of is the boot order. Go into the bios at start up and make sure the boot order is CD rom set as first boot device. Also how was the HD format done? FAT, FAT32 , or NTSF.

Is this a retail XP cd or an upgrade/repair? Or is it an OEM cd?

Jerry: I tried that already and it makes no difference. And the format was done NTFS.

Praetor: I'm not sure about your question, but it's the cd's that came with the computer. Hope that helps.

Thanx guys for the help so far.
