You never said how the DMA suggestion worked.

As Brobear stated, beware of flashing your drive with an unknown fw. I provided the link for you to use at your own discretion. You can damage your drive with a bad flash.

Read the nfo or readme file.

I used the DMA and the Ultra mode was 5 and there was no PIO on either the primary or secondary..so I assume that it is working correctly....I did wonder though if it is still worthwhile to uninstall abd then reinstall....thanks for the warning about the .rar file...I won't download it unless I can get some confirmation that is works properly

Drop in to techzilla and ask them where they got it and for some evaluations done on the results of using the firmware.

You're welcome. I regret we couldn't have been more help. If possible, see if you can get the vendor that sold you the merchandise to do something about the drive or even the manufacturer. It's not an isolated problem and they should know they sold you an inferior drive. If they say anything to dispute the situation, just tell them to google the drive info and see what they find.

Didn't even need to google. The first part of the download link is the site address for techzilla.

This will save me from answering you @ www.techzilla.info

The firmware I posted on this thread:- http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/260038

Is the only available firmware for your model --- Mashita UJ-840D is a one only of a short production run from Mashita and is well known for its shortcomings ! You will never get faster burning speed then 2.5X that is what the drive was designed for !

May I suggest you invest $50 for a newer burner as a remedy for your situation.

Makes sense. See if you can get the manufacturer or vendor to pony up for some of the cost. That is if pursuing it is worth your time.

I have an 840D that I'm having problems with, but I still can't seem to find the updated firmware for it. Could someone please redirect me.

I hear that's almost like searching for the Holy Grail. People are posting on it, but I've seen no one finding firmware for those drives, other than what Jeanc1 mentioned. Usually the manufacturer of a PC will have firmware in their support section if it is available. What does your PC's manufacturer support say about it?
