You don't format DVD's the way you do CD's using DirectCD, InCD, etc. You can use them for Audio/Video or Data but I believe it's always one write at a time. If it's an RW you'd erase it (completely) before using it again. I don't think it can do multi-sessions as in CD-RW's. So you use it as it comes out of the box.
I had a problem with my DVD+RW discs as well. My problem was with reusing them to burn another movie to play in my stand alone dvd player, it would not initialize. This I have discovered has to do with the way DVD+RW records. Since you do not have to erase one to write to it again it still leaves lead-ins and outs on the disk that confuse dvd players. Here it a trick that allows you to use the DVD+RW discs again and again. After recording a movie. You need NERO INcd UDF program. It acts like ROXIO's Direct CD but better. Here is the trick: take a DVD+RW that you want to re-record a movie to and use Nero INcd to formatt it to use like a big floppy then selct eject and tick the box that says "make disc playabe in DVD ROM/RW and now the disc will behave like a new DVD+RW. I say behave like new because there is still some data on the DVD but any program that supports burning DVD+RW will ask you if you want to erase it and it will work every time. Hope this helps alot of people out there. I know I wasted a couple of discs myself trying to erase like a CD-RW and that just destroys the disc So do not try it unless you need more coasters!!!
I should mention that you should use the latest version of Nero's INcd for the trick I mentioned for re-using DVD+RW media for movies that are playable in dvd players.

stop record now max is recording software for the pc that allows you to record either blank cd or dvd media rather painlessly. Hope this clears things up for you. ps. you wanted an easy program to erase your rw disks , "stomp record now max" is the program im suggesting for you
If I reuse a DVD+RW in Nero, it warns me that the data will be overwritten and do I want to continue?...I click OK and have had no problems with over 100 burns! I like to test my burns on DVD+RWs before commiting them to DVD+Rs. Another way in Nero is to go to Recorder - Erase ReWritable - then choose whether you want a quick format (10 seconds) or, normal format (about 40-48 minutes) Hope this helps. I have also used Nero 5.5.9.9 and have had no problems with it... the cd/dvd interface menu is spiffy, lots of options
Any idea what the difference is between the quick erase and full erase in Nero? Is the quick erase sufficient to use the standard burn engine in DVD X Copy? I have yet to master burning with Nero.
