    hey chaps,

Ive got a smaller smaller sv (looks like 1st gen) and im thinking of updating firmware. Ive had a look at the heatsink inside and its a first gen one (i.e. lines/bars across the top as opposed to little peaks) but after reading dooby site

Which one from ekos is the best for me to use if i figure its a clone or if it isnt so i dont wanna put the wrong firmware on it and do the chip in.

whcih one has proven to be the most stable? for both clones and originals

also if its 400ee i need then whcih one is it cuz theres 2 on ekos.

btw its running on 258 at the mo.

not really but ss and sm have the big black line top and bottom and if u watch something for a while it blacks out for a min 'bad or scrambled channel' and you gotta keep flicking back and forth for a min.

Are these issues sorted on 257fixed/4.00?

I think mines a cloner actually now ive done more reading up on it.

If you are sure that it is a clone the 257 FIXED is the firmware for you - and no to point 1 (black lines) yes to point 2 (is stable)

Many programs on cable are still transmitted as 4:3 or 14:9 not 16:9 and so if you are using a widescreen tv that is set for 16:9 the picture will not fill the screen.

Sorry to say most channels are broadcast in 4:3 with letterboxing so look crap on a widescreen TV. As long as the Starview is set to 16:9 and the TV the same then that's the best you will get until the channels get their act together.

I have found in the past that Sly was worse than cable with regards to broadcasting chs in 4:3 & 14:9 etc especially sp()rts. My auld gran used to crack up with it until I set her box to 16:9 and her tv to the same and she noticed an improvement.
