installing a second hard drive help!

    Hi, i have just bought a new hard drive to fit to my other one as the slave drive. what i wonder is before i install it is there anything i have to do like in the bios or anything?
    all help appreciated!

    Nope, just make sure your new hard drive is set to slave

    yes, making sure to set the jumper in the slave position is what most people might forget. Other than that there is nothing to do but put it in then run the software it should have come with to format it so it assigns a drive letter in your PC

    i bought the hard drive from but it didnt come with a disk or software of any kind. do i need to format it? thanks for help so far, sam

    Go to the Maxtor site for any utility software. But your OS should see it. Example: Install as slave on ide. Xp sees it on boot up. Go to my computer and right click on the drive letter assigned and you should be able to format it then use it!
