installing new hardrive without xp

    Hi folks, i want to install a new hard drive for my friend, the one he has is Goosed, and needs to be replaced, i am going to get a new hard drive for him but there will be no O/S, i have however got various copies of XP with geniune keys and will install one of these on it! however i just want to know is it as straight forward as taking the old one out and put the new one in! and then install xp from the disc i have...am i right in thinking i need format new hard drive??

    Yes; it is that easy. As part of the installation; it will ask you if you want to format the drive.

    ide or sata drive?

    its a sata drive! would i be able to use the start up disk for the CURRENT drive that doesnt work! to install O/S or will i have to get a new o/s

    just need to use the xp cd to boot from & to load xp to new drive.
