I have a friend who is having a major problem with their DELL Inspiron DVD/CD drive. It has been suggested that the motherboard might be damaged. If this is the case, my solution for now is that they purchase an external USB DVD/CD drive of some sort.

However, after thinking about this further, there might be a problem. How would we go about totally reinstalling XP down the road if needed? They have the XP installation disc, but if the internal drive is unuseable, what other method is there to do a fresh install of XP?
