Ah...so if im only running one stick then technically im running a 1000 mhz bus then right?

I didnt know that. Thanks for enlightneing me. When I get the money I was gonna get ocz overclocking platinum dual channel 2 x 1 gig. So basically 2 gigs in dual channel. But for now its alright.

Oh yeah forgot to mention one thing. At idle im at 34c roughly and under load at most i have seen is 43c. With stock air cooler and two case fans. So this is one helluva of a chip for 300 bucks...lol. In fact turning down the clock to stock didnt seem to make more of a difference than a degree or two. So thats another reason Im happy. Hey do you think I should upp the cpu voltage. The system seems stable, but I was wondering. Plus there is adjustment for the pci express speed. Should I miss with it? Right now the vid card is oc to 407 and 1.7 ghz memory. I let nividia drivers find it.

    :>

If you're going to get something comparable to the XMS Corsair, you need to look to the OCZ Titanium line. Besides having low clock speeds, I like the copper heat spreader.

LOL. Never up your voltage unless you need to, if it's running stable then leave it alone. Any temps under 45 or less idle or 55 full load is of no concern.

Technically no one is running the advertised front side bus. DDR 400 is technically 200 mghz front side bus, but the memory speed quad pumped gives you a 800MHZ front side bus speed. With the new new AMD's it's multiplied by the HyperTransport speed which is 5 times 200 or a 1000 MHZ frontside bus. Add to that dual channel memory and you get 1000 times 2 or 2000 MHZ front side bus. BTW, on overclocked systems with dual channel that can be higher.

What about you? The memory being discussed here is high end. The RAM sets (2 X 1GB dual channel) are over $300 for the best of both the Corsair and OCZ. You need to figure out the Processor and board you want and then the memory to go along with it. The RAM can be upgraded later if necessary. You need to figure how much of your budget can be allocated to the purchase of RAM and buy accordingly. You can get 512MB RAM for about $60 by Corsair, but it isn't the fastest.

    Triok,
In response to your post the Abit board is a nice board. The heat pipe chipset cooler is a nice addition. The Asus doesn't get the heatpipe until the SLI premium for about 70 dollars extra.

The ASUS version of the Abit board is only 5 dollars more at $115.

It is a toss up but I'd probably spend the extra $5 for the ASUS.

The Venice core 3500+ will clock well past 2.6 ghz but is dependant on good memory for results.

Tell me about it! The problem in the Asus sli deluxe is that the chipset fan can fail, and considering that it's running at around 8000 rpms it's no wonder. If you are among those out there who've experienced a chipset overheat problem with the A8N-SLI Deluxe you can phone Asus and they'll send you a replacement heatsinck and fan for the chipset. I got my replacement in less than a week. If you're in the market to buy then go for the premium.

Triok was on a tight budget.

I did just pick up the Asus Sli premium for 125 including shipping, Newegg refurb.
I'm still testing and tweaking but it runs fine. Very quiet.

The price has gone down a little.

For Triok I wouldn't recomend the refurbs though. No useful warranty from newegg.

    [bold]BITE ME![/bold]

With that off my chest, what memory are you using? LOL

BTW, I've read of X2 4400 running at 3.2 GHZ with water cooling.

Hmmm... Just when I was thinking electricity and water didn't work well together. LOL

My system looks like coming down to mebbe this
Asus A8N-SLI/Premium (cos of the heatpipe)
AMD Athlon 64 3700+ San Diego
    and....
    Corsair Value Select 2GB 400 PC3200 (2 x 1) OR
Geil Value 2GB 400 PC3200 3-8-4-4 with Alum Heat Spreader
The Geil is much cheaper than the Corsair?
Any [FREE :)] advice still goin'
    Cheers

Sounds good to me and the value select will do just fine as long as your not going to heavily overclock.

Electricity and water never work well together. Leaks do happen, I would never trust that. Ever.

The heatpipe doesn't use water or a fan, it's passive cooling.
