I have an Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe and an A8N-SLI Premium, my Optteron is in the premimium and my AMD 3500+ is in the Deluxe. I'll correct that in my sig.

Misrepresentation of the worst kind. For such infractions I'm going to pull your union card for 1 year, starting one year ago yesterday. LOL

I've only just realised how crossfire with X1600 cards works, but see that the software interface will undoubtedly slow things down further, so maybe Master-slave is better. I couldn't really care less about an external cable though, not that I want crossfire at all.

Perhaps you guys can help me. I just purchase and received all my components which I purchased from newegg.com. Every thing is working fine except I can seem to load windows XP onto system. Everything is working but I am bit concern about the NEC 3550A dvd dual layer drive because when I put disk in it doesn't sound like it is spinning. So I installed old 32x cdrom and loaded up Windows XP disk and I just keep getting boot up failure, please insert disk and press enter.

I made sure that the Dvd and/or cd-rom boots first in bios. Everything is working fine according to bios. I have a Biostar 6100 T-force 939 Micro ATX motherboard which according to many on Newegg.com, you will have issues loading and booting up Windows XP without floppy drive. I installed floppy drive and still a problem. So what would you guys suggest?

That would suggest to me that something is wrong with the WinXP disc. Try it in another computer to see if it will work.

    Good luck,

This isn't really the appropriate thread, but is your copy of windows legal?

Don't worry about it, a lot of boards will search for the hard disk and ignore you ROM.

Do this. Go into bios and disable every drive that you have but the DVD/CD Rom with windows in it. Reboot and it will recognize your Windows CD. Don't Worry it will also recognize and reformat your hard disk even when it's disabled. Once the installation process begins let it go until windows is installed. When it reboots and asks you if you want to boot from hard disk or CD rom, ignore it and in a few seconds it will make the right choice but if you hit a button it will start you over again. Once windows is well under the way or partially installed then you want to return to bios and enable your hard disk with CD rom booting first.

The Opteron was in the Deluxe for a while but that was when I was thinking about moding the chipset cooling so that I can get rid of the noisy fan and then it occurred to me. I still have an AMD 3500+ which needs a home so why don't I buy a premium and then put off the modding of the Deluxe for summer. It made perfect sense at the time. LOL

    novicebb,

I had a Dell Optiplex GX-1 that did the same thing. Just disable everything but the drive you want to boot from and install XP. When it is finished just go into the bios and re-set everything in the order you want the computer to boot and it should work just fine. Once the installation is done the computer will not boot anyway as it won't be able to find the OS. It will say something like "Operating system not found" and it should give you the option of going into the setup where you can set everything properly.

    Happy Computering

    novicebb,

One more suggestion, for new installs, disable “Force Bios” in your settings so you can make sure that the boot order you are requesting is always done.

    Sophocles,

Sorry about that. I was in a hurry as I was leaving for the office and missed your post. At least we agree!

The processor can be OC(ed). Does the mobo support OC(ing)? What company manufactured your board and what is the model number? The chipset you mentioned is used by different manufacturers. The same info is needed for the graphics card, manufacturer and model.

    hello sytyguy,
    As instructed both by you and aabbccdd I have tried this link;
    http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/checking DMA.pdf
    for several times,but not available.
What else can I do to speed up my drive at DMA mode??
    Any idea.

    Click on Start

Left click once on My Computer
Right click once on My Computer and select properties.

Make sure your settings are for DMA not PIO
