That's interesting to know, I suppose that means you can OC even further before touching the voltages.
Do we have an idea when the X2900 is out? if it's much later than the beginning of may I'm going to look into an 8800.

Wait for ATi sam! Stay faithful because they haven't been so late to the punch as AMD :)

That's what I want to do, but if it means me waiting until christmas for it they can forget it. Good though the 8880s are, they're still not enough of an upgrade to justify the expense.

from the romurs i have read the x2900xtx is about 15/20% better than the 8800gtx in 3dmark06.

the xtx models are the only ones with gddr4 tho so how they will compare when the 89s come out with the same ram who knows.

they do seem to need alot of power too as the pics i have seen show both a pcie connection and a 8 pin one, what that will mean for the end user i dont know.

From the rumoured bandwidth specs, I'm expecting a bit more than 15-20%, especially after so long...

Its a good CPU, and will manage most apps really well.
For the money you can't go too wrong

    Where was this?
Besides, I thought it was agreed the high end model would be an X2900, not an X2800.

maybe ati are trying to keep something up sleave too.

that pic is apparently a quad gpu cross fire and a 4x4 set up.

mostly from links in the anandtech forums.

Not going to disclose which website it was?
I see that's a 4x4 system in there (and by that they really only mean 4+2) but I'm still dubious if the benchmark numbers.

It will be about a year following Conroe that we "may" see a competitive effort from AMD. But will it be too little too late? AMD is stuck at 65nm and have been working on the Barcelona for release this summer.

Has everyone been paying attention to Intel's 45nm process using hafnium-based high-k dielectric and metal gates to decrease current leakage. The process is supposed to yield faster and more energy efficient chips. Penryn adds to C2D with additional cache memory and new SSE4 instructions. Samples are being demonstrated and word has it the new chips may ship sometime in the 2nd half of the year.

Looks like Intel may be a step ahead of AMD again. Lets hope those Barcelona chips are something extra instead of another evolutionary step. AMD needs to put an r in front of those steps to get back in the game.

I'd rather see some benchmarks with 3DMark 06, it seems strange that anyone would only use the older versions on a new card.

You'd normally expet to see some games stats as well.

Exactly, and the current 10-20% increase seems to exactly follow the expected trend of "a bit better than" with the 8800GTX. I'd expect at least one value to be a bit different considering the vastly higher memory bandwidth, if the figures are correct.

Interesting thread. A year ago my comment on Intel beating AMD would have had pages of comment. Now it's ignored in favor of discussing graphics. Old news I guess. LOL I think we need a thread on graphics cards, or the thread title could be changed to AMD-ATI vs nVidia GPUs and Intel CPUs.

So who's gonna be the big dog on the porch when nvidia releases their GDDR4 cards?

Intel with the best CPU? This thread may get confusing. LOL

That X2800XT seems to be the card for me. Then I can upgrade to Conroe and put the new one in that build and still keep my X2 to play Half-Life 2. If only having that FX55 in there for those scores is any clue at all I will be doing nice and tidy with an e6600 :)
