Yeah, I know that but I meant between nvidia and ATI. Seems this thread had ventured off towards video cards and the new GDDR4 offerings from ATI. Nvidia is soon to release their line of GDDR4 video cards as well. How'd it get back to intel vs AMD so fast.

yeah I knew what you meant Mort. If the R600 performs as the hoax benchmarks predicted, then the 8900 will probably flatten it. If the R600 performs more like I think it should, then it should at least be reasonable competition. At least in the UK market, nVidia cards usually come out more expensive than ATi.

This thread has been off topic so much it's almost irrelevant as far as the topic goes. Progress is moving so slow on the CPU front, except for Intel running away with a one man race, this thread might as well discuss soybean futures.

    Is someone on holiday?

I'm suprised a big foot hasn't stamped on this thread for going off topic!

P.S. What's the price of cheese at the moment?

About the lowest for reputable online vendors is $965 at ZZF and the Egg. Karan-bir (never heard of them) listed having 2 at $910.

    aabbccdd,

If you're gonna spend that kind of $ you might as well go with a quad core. FYI my E6600 @ 3.4ghz will outperform a stock X6800 at a fraction of the cost. Mine beats all stock cpu's except the quad cores. Just out of curiosity, what gpu are you running?

yeah for the money the E6600 would be the way to go by OC(ing)

Mort i have the AMD Opteron 185 OC(ed) to 2.87Ghz

So GTS > GT ? I'm not up on nVidia terminology, the last geforce i had was a Sparkle GF4 MX440 64MB PCI 1x.

    Mort81,
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820145034
It's interesting! Of all the memory you could have picked for an example, this one seems to be troublesome. I was reading the reviews and noticed a great amount of the 300+ reviews either mentioned recieving 1 bad stick or had one fail shortly after installing it.

I should be starting gina4xoxo's machine within about a week as she is ordering the parts now. She's got the MB and CPU with the rest on the way. I'm going to use these for memory: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145040
She is going to add another pair down the road so she will wind up with 4x512 for her 2GB. They work a bit faster than 2x1GB in DDR so I assume that it's the same for the DDR2, at least when a MB is limited to 4GB of memory. It may be different for MBs that support 8GB. Don't know!

    Happy Computering,
    theone

    theonejrs,

Looks like corsair cooked up a bad batch huh. Too bad. Could really hurt their rep. Of all the ppl I know personally and through the forums, only sammorris got a bad stick of corsair DDR2 memory and it was a 512 stick of C5. If I was buying now I would still take my chances with the memory I linked too. BTW the links in your posts aren't working right.

Heh, to make sure I got more RAM quickly, I ordered some more rather than wait for a return (and used the opportunity to change to 2GB of CAS4) and I still went with Corsair.
