Ok since the topic has changed Ill ask this. I've finally decided to get the amd x2 6000. Now im not sure which motherboard to pick. I was thinking these Asus M2N32 WS NVIDIA Socket AM2 ATX Motherboard / Audio / PCI Express / PCI-X / SLI Ready / Dual Gigabit LAN / S/PDIF / USB 2.0 / Serial ATA / RAID Or Asus Crosshair NVIDIA Socket AM2 ATX Motherboard / Audio / PCI Express / SLI Ready / Dual Gigabit LAN / S/PDIF / USB 2.0 & Firewire / Serial ATA / RAID / LED Switch / LCD. Now im Only going to spring about $150 usd for a video card can you recommend one? Ill Also be getting an ultra case with a 700 psu. The Cooler i was thinking about the Ultra TEC cooler.Let me know if this sounds good. Give me your opinion. My budget is about $1300. Thanks In Advance

It's your money, but right now, I wouldn't recommend building a new system with an AMD processor, not with the clear Intel performance lead. I have an AMD and I like it, but my next personal system will be an Intel unless AMD comes up with something new, I would build with a C2D. The E6600 is a bit higher than the 6000 X2, but performance wise, the Intel is definitely the leader. Until AMD does better, it's no contest.

What affected your decision on an AMD 6000?

WEll looking into both chips at toms hardware cpu charts. I noticed the difference between the 2 is marginal. Also the AMD did the same or better at most of the things that i like to do. This isn't going to be a gaming PC. I have a playstation for games. I work on my pc i use programs like lightwave and web creating tools stuff like that. And alot of media encoding dvd transcoding and all that good stuff. The pentium if your a gamer definately better. Now i was comparing the intel e6600 vs the x2 6000. Since they are in the same price range. If there was a considerable difference i would go with the intel but for now im going with the underdogs. $30 cheaper with marginal differences amd wins for me. So now from my earlier post which motherboard should i go with. The
Asus M2N32 or the asus crossfire. The m2n32 has pci-x but the crossfire can handle 8gig of ram no pci-x slots. I figure the pci-x slots is a gaming thing nothing to do with me. And 8gigs of ram well that cant be bad and maybe helpful to me. Im leaning towards the crossfire. Any input would help. Also which $150 video card would you recommend since thats all im going to spring for a vid card.
Thanks In Advance for your help.

    chop,

well I happen to agree with PacMan but it's your money and you appear to have your mind made up. I hear that the C2D's are no longer as OC friendly as they used to be but with a good mobo and good ram, you should still be able to get a descent OC. still more so than with an AMD I would assume. I went with the E6600 primarily for the purpose of encoding. It hauls a$$.

Im not sure i want to get into overclocking. Too many variables that can go wrong and dont want to spend a ton of time just to overclock my pc. While im sure i can learn to do it i dont want to go through the down time should something go wrong.Ok Let me Ask you this with a budget of $1300 For everything. what intel setup would you recommend and what are the advantages.this is the rest Video Card, XFX GeForce 7600 GT / 256MB GDDR3 / SLI / PCI Express / Dual DVI / HDTV / Video Card , Case Ultra Black Aluminus ATX Mid-Tower Case with Clear Side, Front USB, Firewire, Audio Ports and Ultra 700-Watt XVS Power Supply,Cooler Ultra / ChillTec / Socket 939/775/AM2 / Thermal Electric CPU Cooler, and Ram Corsair Dual Channel TWINX 2048MB PC6400 DDR2 800MHz E.P.P. As much as I'd like to say go for the Intel I think that system will do you fine. But if you get a motherboard WITHOUT PCI Express that 7600GT is gonna end up being a useful door stop at best.

But I see that both boards have it. PCI-X IS PCI-Express written in shorthand.

It takes little time and it's not dangerous to the PC, if all you want to do is a modest overclock. It's the diehard enthusiasts who spend the time going to the limit and the limit is where the troubles creep in. You may see similar specs at stock, but C2D is the performance CPU and can be turned up easily to handle heavy tasks like encoding. AMD is going to have to develop some new CPUs before they can compare.

So PacMan777 would you say that bringing the E6600 to atleast 3Ghz a modest and fairly simple overclock?

    chop2113,
One of the advantages of going Intel is speed. I just built an Asus P5N-E/E4300 for about $750. 7600GT vieo, 1 GB Corsair XMS DDR2-800 memory, 160 GB sata 3.0, nice cooler Master Cavalier case with a Cooler Master 500 watt power supply and an NEC DVDRW burner. If you look in the Official Overclocking thread you will see the final benchmarks for this system as I'm shipping it to Chicago on Monday. It's very fast and only has a relatively mild overclock from 1.8 to 3.0GHz or 66.67%. The MB is SLI but is only 8x in SLI mode. Still for the performance for the money it can't be beat. It runs faster than a $970 Ex E6800 stock. Pretty good for a $169 CPU on an inexpensive SLI MB. I only mention this because you asked. Recomended??? Hell Yes!!!!

    Sincerely,
    theone

Thats cool Estuansis i just wanted to Know why you say that, your personnel opinion. The link you gave i was on and the performance of both is marginal to me thats why i went with AMD first. $30 cheaper for marginal differences sounds good to me.

Both would be an excellent choice. But at 3GHz that AMD leaves little overclocking headroom.

But if you don't plan on overclocking I think it would be great.

    Estuansis,
I'm not certain if you mean the one from my previous post but it is an Intel E4300 at 3.0GHz, not an AMD! Just want to avoid confusion!

I realize my E6600 OC'ed to 3.6ghz is no modest OC but you can also compare the intel C2D offerings with AMD's FX-62 (2.8GHZ). the X2 6000+ is not available for comparison on my vs of sandra but clock for clock the C2D's tear up any of AMD's dual core offerings.

Cool I really would like to get into overclocking but still a little lost on it. What i do find appealing about it is that i can purchase i cheap pcu and run it like the more expensive ones. Damn decisions Decisions hmmm.....

true. an E4300 OC'ed to 3.0 will outperform a X2 6000+ for about $100.00 less money. my E6600 will easily OC and tear up a stock X6800 at a fraction of the cost.

Damn i hear that all this talk about overclocking has the mechanic in me
wanting to do an overclock. As i very much like taking a small block v8 and giving it some big block power hehe.. Gotta be a man thing.

if you have no intentions on OC'ing period, then the X2 6000+ wouldn't be a bad choice due to it's stock core clock and price. Just keep in mind that clock per clock the C2D's will tear up any AMD dual core offerings.
