    crowy,

    Nice numbers man! Extremely good for a x2 3800+ What I don't understand is SiSoft's performance ratings. Your MIPS and mine are about the same, but your Multi-Media and Memory Bandwidth are much higher. My preformance rating is 8450 while yours is 8404. I'm not sure I understand that at all. I know your Sandra is a newer version than mine but there can't be any real difference in the numbers as all the variables are fixed. MIPS is MIPS! MB/s is still MB/s! And it/s is still it/s. Since your MB/s and it/s are higher and the MIPS are the same, why is your PR lower! Doesn't make any sense to me!

    Estuansis: LOL, good call, Semprons will pwn any Celeron! LOL
    Theonejrs: Actually it's 28%, which is incredible.
    Crowy: LOL! The profound statement is true though, you only need what you need. I rather suspected I only needed a 3800+ but I got a 4200 for futureproofing, ish.
    Rick: Your new 1.8Ghz system is actually about 15% faster than your old 2.16Ghz, so that puts it into perspective for you.
    Theonejrs: No matter what I change my PR is always fixed at one value and has never altered, not even by one, so it may not be as simple as it/s and MIPS.

    i got a question. is it good to have 2 burners in your system and rip and burn with both burners? is it good on the burner to do ripping and burning?or should you just use a dvdrom drive to rip with then burn? im getting ready to do my first build and wanting to know if i should put 2 burners in it or just one burner and a dvdrom drive?

    @theonejrs,
    Lets remember that we are talking 2 different systems here.
    Sisandra in all reality is a synthetic benchmark only.
    We have two systems operating with different architechture and sandra has too work with both so there will always be a variation one way or the other.

    I see no point burning two discs at once unless I'm really short on time. DVD-ROM and DVD burner is how it's usually done and how I'm doing it.
    Besides ROMs are often faster than burners.

    @cincyrob,
    If your going to have 2 dvd drives you may as well have 2 burners as opposed to 1 burner/1 reader.That way you can share the work load between the 2.IE:If you only have one of each(reader/writer)then your writer will always have to do all the writing(obviously!).If you have 2 writers then you can share that task between the 2 as well as share the reading.Also if one of them goes west then you still have the other one to perform both tasks.Not sure what your build will be but I can't stress enough the importance of a good power supply.Try to get a case and power supply seperately.Make sure the psu is atx2 and get one with a 12cm fan mounted underneath.These suck the air from underneath and exhaust it out the back of your case.Plus they are virtually silent!

    Fair enough, I don't tend to find DVD burners break on me though, only my old shoddy benq ones that couldn't manage a dozen coasters before failing!
    Good PSUs to that spec are important,
    Such as this one that I chose.

    this is the board im getting, Asus P5LD2 Deluxe Intel Socket 775 ATX Motherboard / Audio / PCI Express / Gigabit LAN / USB 2.0 & Firewire / Serial ATA / RAID and prob the intel d920 cpu,Intel Pentium D 920 2.80GHz / 4MB Cache / 800MHz FSB / Dual-Core / Presler / OEM / Socket 775 / Processor. was just curious about the dvd drives to stick in it. i am more or less just curious if its good onn the burners to do bith like that. they re cheap enough now to get 2 burners for the price of a reg dvd-rom

    @sammorris,I know what you mean about the Benq drives!!
    Thats a nice power supply you have.

    @cincyrob,Thats what there designed for!!!
    If they were'nt, you would have to buy a reader/writer seperately.
    I can personally recommend the LG GSA-H10A.
    Does everything including DVD-RAM discs.
    Have had mine for around 3 months and no coasters thus far.
    And if you use dvd decrypter you can change the booktype to DVD-ROM for DVD+R discs,so better compatibility for standalone DVD players.
    P.S. Are you upgrading your memory or using what you have in the old system?

    sammorris.
    Where as mine changes every time I do a benchmark!

    As regards to how many of what drives. I have a 16x DVD-Rom, a 12x Burner and a 24x CDRW. i just can't see wearing out my DVD burner to burn CDs especially since CDRWs are dirt cheap! I also can't see wearing out my DVD burner playing DVDs, so I have the 16x for that.

    A lot has to do with how much burning you plan on doing!!!
    If you have 2 burn everything drives they should last for years (unless they're Benq's then maybe a few days LOL!!)
    If you only burn a few cd's here and there but mainly burn dvd's then I think 2 dvd/cd burners is the way to go.If you have one of each and the dvd burner throws in the towel,no more burning dvd's until you get a replacement.When my Benq died I still had my old faithful sony DRU-510A
    to back me up.

    @cincyrob,
    It does'nt matter how long you wait for prices to go down,it will always be cheaper the day after you buy it.Thats just the way it works!!

    crowy,

    I look at the DVD thing from an economical standpoint. You can buy 3 decent 16x DVD-Roms for what it costs to buy one decent DVD Burner. I wouldn't ever burn 2 DVDs at the same time on 2 different drives as DVD Burners get very hot while burning. Not only that, one tiny timing error and you get at least one coaster! And you won't even know it until it's all burned. I have a copy of "Matilda" in 1/2" block format to prove it. The whole movie from about 10 minutes in is like that. It looks like the censorship they put on certain adult places, except the entire screen is that way. I went back and burned the same files again and the movie was perfect!
