Hmm, odd, because that should be similar thermally to mine. Your 7800GTX will stuff out tonnes of heat but it should end up outside not inside...

I've been looking at the design of the airflow and it just doesn't make much sense to me. I do a little playing around with airflow once in a while, so I know a little bit about it. I even designed a "reverse" chimney" in my old case with a 92mm fan to pull hot air away from the drives on my Prescott. There's a 1" opening at the top of the chimney that allows any heat at the top of the case to be pulled along with the heat from the drives. You can touch the case anywhere except directly above the power supply and it is cool to the touch. Must work! I didn't put one in this case because it doesn't seem to need it with the lower temps of the Presler. The motherboard temps only vary a couple of degrees, unless I let the room get too hot, then everything goes up. This things been on for almost 18 hours and the CPU is 30C and the MB is a solid 35C, so the heat's not hanging around. MB temps never vary more than a couple of degrees regardless of what the CPU temp is. My memory's now locked at 400 so it's running at 476MHz, which upped the Mb temp 2 degrees. with the memory running at 396MHz, Idle temp for the CPU was 29C with the MB at 34C. Running fully loaded at 100% CPU usage the CPU hits 47 to 50C, but the MB never goes over 37C, so I guess I have it right! Since my machine is overclocked 20%, I'm very happy with the temps! Like I said, it's a cheap case but I like it a lot.

One more thing I want to point out. Most Case manufacturers that supply fans with their products try and get away with the quietest fans they can (looks good in the specs), but not always the best all around choice. My 120mm on the back is rated at 53cfm, which moves a lot of air but at 2500rpm is a bit loud. I have it running at 1950rpm, but because of the aggressive fan blade, it's quieter but still moves a lot of air. Most company installed 120mm fans are in the 30 to 35cfm range, which is much quieter but don't move near as much air. Your MB temps will tell you a lot. If the CPU temp goes up and the MB goes up with it steadily as the CPU temp increases then the heat is not being removed from the case very well. With good airflow, the MB temp shouldn't vary very much (thank you Brobear). Fully loaded, the CPU temp should be much higher than the MB temp. A good 10 degrees higher or more! Mine averages 13 degrees higher when fully loaded.

And you mate (it actually means something to you!) The fans on my system are low-CFM low-noise fans, granted, but they're still more than adequate, and I'd sooner they be that way, they run off the 7V rail rather than just spin at a low speed with 12V.

 

aabbccdd- we have nearly the same build, I'd say only difference is case, PSU, and opticals (which really dont count because yer talking heat)

I mounted my hard drives to not block the airflow of the front 140mm turbine fan, and added the 2 80mm fans on the clear side panel and I get 5-8°C less than you on average. The only time I reached those temps were after 3 hours of DOOM3. Thats why I havent really OC'D much, the temps already reached a certain level under stress.
I don't like that AI booster either, not a true overclock (being able to control exactly what yer doing) and found my games and certain applications hung up on me with it applied. I like the PCProbe app tho.

 

Yeah, an automatic OC is a nice idea, but at the end of it you really want to be able to do everything manually, it would save a lot of hassle.

 

Russ i probably need better case fans than the stock ones that came with this case, the harddrives (two of them) are directly in front of the front fan which has to cause a problem,i will take some pics of the inside of the case today and post them that will give you guys more insight to get this baby cooled down ,running the damn thing with the side off it and a floor fan is def. a pain in the butt

The only thing I noticed is that the CPU cooler doesn't seem straight. Other than that the only thing I can think of is a higher CFM fan. Very nice by the way!

i will add the fan to the outside back of the case as i said and check on the thermal compound used on the CPU with the Zalman

and can you get more rpms out of the case fans i have (front and back) or do i need to get different fans?

Yeah, I thought it might be the angle. Maybe a higher CFM fan is the answer. I don't know what I would do. I guess I would try a fan like I have on mine which is 53cfm. Sorry I can't think of anything else. You might change your desktop! She's pretty hot!!LOL
