    @FIHSNERD,
    YES IT DOES MATTER!!
    Too much can be worse than not enough.
    Make sure both surfaces are clean using Isopropyl alcohol or metho,
    then put a small amount of thermal paste(about the same size as a small grain of rice) onto the centre your cpu.Then place your cooler on top and gently rub in a circular motion to spread the paste evenly and remove any air bubbles then clip down your cooler and your good to go.

    OK?
    i am 15? :)
    i know that sounds simple.. but we dont have anything but rubbing alcohol.. plus... i set the vcore up 1 and 2.7 became stable.... i see why the MSI did not make it.. and i dont have anti static stuff.. so what do i get the compound of with? he is using Antec Silver... not Artic.. cheap rip of.. i made him buy it because he wanted to use the shitty stuff again.. btw: on the Uguru. i had set the multiplyer to 10 in the bios, but it said 11?

    FIHSNERD,

    Actually this may have to do with AM2/DDR2. They may have found out that having the cache on only one core mekes DDR2 work better and more efficient. I can't think of any other reason why! Wouldn't it be funny coming just 18 days before the release of Conroe to find out that the FX-62 rules with this change and kicks Conroes butt!!! Now that would be funny!!!

    Happy Computering

    @FIHSNERD,
    Rubbing alcohol I have never used but it may work.
    Does your Mum have any acetone based nail polish remover?
    That will work.
    What does your system properties tell you with regards to cpu speed?
    If your fsb is @250 for example and multi is at 11 and your @ 2750mhz then its correct.
    If your inputting a multi of 10 and system properties says 2500mhz then what you have set it at is correct and the 11x the bios is showing you is wrong.Is there something in the bios thats stopping you from setting @ 10 so its using the default multi of 11?

    Use your thermal paste @ about the size of a small grain of rice or a little more than a match head.

    she has non actone.. i dont feel comforatable using alcohol on the cpu, so what do i use, a rag tissue paper WHAT? i will get it of.. just not with the alcohol or whatever..
    and i dont care about the cpu.. i am at 2.4 idle at 34C
    their is a prob.. unless, because this heatsink is silent.. maby it isnt spinning fast enough? and does the fan need to be blowing air onto or away from the cpu?

    thanx,

    why does that seem like such a small amout.. does not even sound like it would cover the entire hting.. Basicly i need to cover the entire thing with a thin enough layer to where i can see the metal showing throug?

    "God that thing is a beauty" was that aimed at me?
    Memory is low? How is it saying it, You may end up out of RAM in big games, but you should only get a message if you exceed your maximum page file, which unless you've modified, is nearly twice the RAM you have, so that's an absurd proposition.

    mark5hs: Same! I completed it, but it made me do it time and time again!

    fihsnerd: The CPU fan should be drawing air across the heatsink, not blowing "hot air away from it" or it will be quite ineffectual. It will matter if he smothers it in a random place lol, but if applied correctly will greatly improve your temperatures if you're using a pad, provided you remove the compound from the pad first. Lol after that comment, I assume you were talking to me!
    If you're too worried about this, you could always buy some proper stuff like Akasa T.I.M. remover, I used some of that (but I don't own it, I borrowed it) You don't want to see the chip beneath, almost, but it shouldn't quite be visible. It may be better to make sure you have the time and resources to do it and not leave yourself with an unusable PC.

    I've yet to install Sandra, but I'm after the 2005 ver. because apparently the 2007 scores are warped...

    Maybe I'm misunderstanding but using compound with a pad isn't a good idea. Pads and thermal paste are made to transfer heat from metal to metal and are not very efficient at transferring heat between themselves. Mixing will also interfere with them settling in and bonding to the metal as the proc heats up and cools down.

    Lol I didn't mean both! God I wouldn't expect that to let a CPU get past the BIOS let alone be effective. I obviously phrased yet another post badly. I meant Compound INSTEAD OF a pad. Sorry!

    Yeah, once she's stabilised a bit. Not being allowed to open any big application when itunes has been running is a pain, but I suppose there is more to thr world than itunes. I am enjoying her immensely, but I'm going away on holiday next week! LOL bad timing anyone? oh well, now I've identified the problem I'm happier, because I should now be able to prevent it, even if not cure it just yet. It goes like absolute stink in games, so I'm pleased with that.

    Well,
    bit the bullet and decided to order the Tuniq 120.
    There are 2 stockists here in Australia.The difference in price between them is $20.($99 v $79).$99 stockist advertises we will beat any genuine price elsewhere,so I emailed them 2 days ago to see if they can beat $79 still no reply.Email $79 stockist get a reply saying they are between shipments and won't have any until mid month.Damn I hate that!!Have to wait another few weeks after already waiting long enough.Oh well,
    as the saying goes, "All good things come to those that wait".
