The X800 would be alright, if you can install it. Avoid the X300 though.

ok.thanks for the info.im trying to persuade my mum to let me buy this instead of the hp.

    http://www.comet.co.uk/comet/html/cache/834_331490.html

i can get this for £899.99.pretty good eh and a much better gc

give me your thoughts on it.i think the cpu is better than the amd in the hp.

edit - another quetsion.u know on full details how it says it has a dedicated gc does that mean i could get that card in a pc.cause if u look on the back on graw it says laptop versions of these chipsets are not supported cause i was thinking they were only meaning that for shared grpahics.

No laptop versions of full graphics cards are also unsupported by many games. The CPU in that laptop is no better than the AMD really, and while the graphics are OK, gaming performance will still be pretty mediocre.

Dual cores are good indeed, but it really depends how much you use multitasking!

The dual core is great indeed. But with that video card you won't be seeing very good game performance. I could have a 3000.00GHz dual core but it won't game worth crap without a good graphics card. A good processor won't matter in any system without adequate video power.

Yeah dazila has a good point, and the case example given didn't seem to mention gaming if I recall correctly, but it just depends how much of that multitasking he'll ACTUALLY use.

ill be multi tasking a little bit.i dont see what is wrong with that gc.ill only be playing a few pc games anyway with the most demanding graphics wise game maybe being doom 3 and gta san andreas.the rest are all old games such as mgs2 substance, house of the dead 3,final fantasy 7 and 8 and metal gear solid.

    He_Man,
The big problem with Acer has always been quality, or rather lack of! I do a lot of computer repairs and upgrades and I see more E-Machines and Acers than all the others put together!

    Happy Computering,

That is dirt cheap for that laptop, but you'll have to put up with a rubbish screen and soso build quality. Do you want a laptop like that for £800? a Centrino Core Duo 1666 and 2GB of RAM and such a big hard disk is amazing, and although X1400 graphics aren't gaming graphics they're not bad in such a cheap laptop. However, I would still disrecommend gaming on an X1400. That ferrari's graphics card is mildly better.

That one's not bad but truth is, since laptops are all premade and never custom built (for a reasonable price) there isnt one at that price range with graphics any better than that one Heman posted.
