Did I just see a first in Afterdawn thread history?
    (double checks link)
Someone actually linked to or considered a product with the DELL named spashed all over?
I may have to second guess the helpfulness of such threads...
    LOL!!!

LOL yeah, that's right, odd isn't it? Since this is a screen though I'll allow it, for the price the specs seem astonishing. 1920x1200, 6ms, 1000:1 contrast and 450cd/m2 brightness, the integrated USB hub and card reader could also prove useful!

    sammorris,
I give you full credit for tipping me off! I just went and looked it up after you made the statement. I'm hoping for the 64 3700+! That seems to be the direction they are leaning as it's the lowest AMD 64 offered with the 1 meg cache! I'm just waiting to see what the Customer rep's Supervisor says.

    Happy Computering,

That it is, blag and blag some more, Russ! Hats off to you if you can blag that upgrade. a 3700+ is some serious meat really, and stock it outperforms my CPU.

No. It's quite a fast PC, but could be a lot better for the price.
An A64 4000+ is what, £105? two 7600GTs make it £305, two 300GB hard disks make it £425, 2GB of RAM make it £555, add £200 for the OS, peripherals, optical drives, case and PSU (probably quite generous, I doubt they're that much) to make £755, then add £140 for the 19" LCD to make £895, maybe £40 for a mobo, £935. That's it isn't it? Could be home-built for a full £465 less than PC world are charging. That's a lot!

If he does that I'll paypal you £50. No chance, mate. You're supposedly buying "peace of mind" and "not having to do it yourself" with a prebuilt unit, so the guy at PCW won't want to know. Big stores just don't negotiate like that.

I just recently took a little trip to my local PC world. I played dumb and considered the differewnces between the AGP 5700 Ultra and 6600. The guy instantly comes up to me and tells me that they are both about the same(the 5700U being a bit pricier) but the 5700 with a higher 5X00 number would perform marginally better. He thought he was elaborately leading me into buying it. I left with a $20 ethernet card and my future business there.

I don't shop at PC World anymore, needless to say.

LOL - one of my mates works in Dixons a.k.a. Currys.Digital <sniggers> and he says PC world is Dixons' evil brother! I wouldn't buy anything there unless I knew it wouldn't be much cheaper elsewhere. I know someone who bought a BFG 128MB 6600GT from them and it went wrong, foolishly he returned it to PCW not to BFG and so ended up with a replacement Leadtek 256MB 6600 Standard.

Okey doke! I can afford to lose it at the moment, but does this mean you'll paypal me £50 if you're unsuccessful? I'm serious. Are you?

an X850XT will be loud with poor case ventilation, but quiet with good ventilation, because of the ambient temperature. Unless of course those drivers are causing it to run at 100% fan speed full time. You may want to check if there's an option for that.
