Not a core 2 owner, but I hear of a few 3.6 stories with 6600s, some higher.

im an amd user but it looks like the asus p5b deluxe is the one to go for. i read things about them hitting 480 fsb, thats just insane speeds. but any in the p5 range seems to oc well.

the gigabyte ga-965p-ds3 seems to oc very well also.

Anybody know any AM2 boards that OC well? I'm looking into switching over and getting an AM2 X2 3800+. I want to be ready for AM3 whenever it come upon us.

And any good quality DDR2 PC6400 RAM would be good. I found a cheap set of OCZ Gold for about $115.00 on newegg. Any opinions? I can go higher.

I gotta watch my spending... sheesh! :p

XMS2 is good, and for mobos, I hear you want something with the nForce 590 chipset...

    I might look into that...

The nForce 410 Tforce 6100 looks like a good buy... price is a bit low. I should check it out. Sometimes the ceap ones will do amazing things :)

I thought that was a 939 board? or is there an AM2 version now? The 939 version was an astonishing board, relatively competent onboard video, good overclocking, and an absurdly low price. They even bundled them with processors for like $100 total, and that was an Athlon64 as well!

There is an AM2 version of that board. I agree with its 939 version being an excellent performer, I've got it and its great.

    Sammorris,

The TFource 6100 comes in 939 and AM2. The Combos I've seen are all GeFource 6100s and usually come with an Athlon 64 3200+, but they are only good for running stock speeds and lack the adjustments needed for even mild overclocks.

The TFource has much better overclocking abilities in the set-up, and the on-board Video is extremely good. it also has a PCIe 16x to upgrade the video at a later date. I jusy built one for a customer and considered one for my next build!

I'll probably go with an Asus A8N-E though, which is the same MB as your SLI, only with 1 16x PCIe socket instead of 2!

    Happy Computering,
    theone

PM crowy if you wanna OC. He's a genius with that :)

Guys, would I be able to get a stable 2.6GHz OC on a X2 3800+ with the AM2 TForce 6100? Anyone got any stories?

And my X1800XT won't have problems with it I hope. I'm gonna OC it soon when I decide to get a good cooler.

I like the look of the Zalmanish cooler on the Gigabyte GeForce 7900GS though.

I might become an nVidia user. This looks like a monster. Similar performance with my X1800XT... better overclocks with that monster cooler :)

He's being sarcastic becaue he's an intel fanboy n00b. The X2 is great for OCing. As before, PM crowy, he knows the score. As for you Estuansis, it should all work fine.

Alright... I'm gonna look into backing up some of my movies and crap and maybe make the switch over in a few weeks.

And I'm aware that there won't be any noticeable difference in my performance Ryan91. I happen to be a big time enthusiast and the time and effort is ALWAYS worth the money.

And on the elcheapo motherboard... I just don't believe in spending gobs of money on a motherboard if I can get the same results for much less. That's why I've stuck with ASUS' mid-end budget mobos so far. They're awesome :p

Nah, Coincidentally at the time I OCed, I got a software instability, and therefore wouldn't be able to tell what was causing crashes. I think i've since solved that, but I haven't put my system back up yet. I don't really see much gain to be had from OCing yet.
