    Hi,

I just started getting a very strange problem with IE 7, running XP. Every time I'm at a website and click on a link and a new window opens, IE shuts everything down as soon as I close the new window.
The only program I've recently installed is Windows Messenger but I've uninstalled it. System restore won't allow me to restore back to an earlier date.

I'm going nuts and would really appreciate any help anyone can give me. I'm not a techie so please keep it kinda simple!

    Thanks!!

    Barry

Just to add, SP2 has been downloaded to IE 7. Also, please let me know if this thread is not in the correct forum. I'll be happy to post it properly if it shouldn't be here.

    Thanks again,

    Barry

I appreciate your replies. I do have Firefox installed and have for a long time. I like it but many times it asks for a plug-in but doesn't specify which one and I can't find any that will work.

    Do you have Firefox 2.0?

Hmmm. Not quite sure what you mean. I'll rephrase it. I downloaded Service Pack 2 for IE7. It was one of the windows updates.

Please let me know if this is what you wanted to know.

    Many thanks,

    Barry

I am having the same problem. It started after I upgraded from dial-up to DSL. How do I get IE 6 back?

Im having a problem with IE too! tha browser has never worked and it has an error message every time i try and open it. And when I try deleting it, it says that deleting ie would affect a big list of programs that rely on IE and some will become unusable and not work properly if I delete. I want my msn messenger to work, and some other programs that wont either, and I think it all leads back to ie. any ideaz?

Ah....ok, that's what confused me. There is no SP2 for IE 7. Service Pack 2 is for the XP operating system. (or Windows Server 2003)

Which is even more strange, I didn't think IE 7 was supported on XP SP1...but I haven't paid much attention to it. If you did install SP2 just recently, you could have caused yourself a ton of issues....IE just being one of them.

Best to install SP2 as a slipstreamed XP.

Here's a list of the plugins for FF. Get the originals from their perspective vendors.

Thanks, Morph! I meant to say that I downloaded SP2 for Windows XP, not IE7. I'm about tempted to ditch IE7 and go back to IE6. Might be better off.

Appreciate the list of plugins for Firefox.

    Y'all are just awesome folks!!

    Thanks again,

    Barry
