Hello, I have this problem: without changing anything (software/media) my samsung ts-h552b stopped burning dvds (but not cds!). I tried to change media and writing speed just to be sure, but it didn't work. All I get is this message. Could it be a burner problem? I have the latest version of Nero and of the Firmware.
Can anybody help me please? This is the log I get:

It could be your drive or media.. Try cleaning the lens with a comercial DVD lens cleaner or sometimes some compressed air will do the trick.

Try also to write an image of the disk to the Hard drive. that could rule out any of the software... :)

So you say it burns CD's with no problems then it just may be the drive is defective. How old is the drive?

The drive is 7-8 months old (and worked fine until last week). But.. is it possible for it to be defective just in dvd-burning and not cd-burning?

creaky (or anyone with new info) sorry to shake the dust off this thread. I found this thread by googling for the errors.

I am, currently, working on this error. I'll paste my log file below.

I was trying to use Nero to burn some video files created by a DVD authoring program I was trying out (using "Burn DVD-Video Files"). The program only creates the files and you have to use another program to burn the files to a disc.

I was wondering if any more info has come to light on this problem? To try to solve this problem I have updated the burners firmware and Nero (version 6) with no joy.

I grabbed a copy of TMPGEnc DVD Author (version 1.5.13.44) from a coworker. I just used TMPGEnc to burn to the media in the Nero log file:

Recorder: SONY DVD RW DRU-530A, Media type: DVD+R
Disc Manufacturer ID: MAXELL, Media Type ID: 002, Product revision number: 0
Disc Application Code: 0, Extended Information Indicators: 3

The burn completed with out errors but I have yet to view the disk in my DVD player. In the past 7 months has it been found that Nero is the problem? I have used 3 out of the 2 50-spindle of disks I bought in Aug. The first two I used DVD Shrink(?) to burn the discs without problems.

Has anyone accross this error with the new Nero 7?
    Are Maxell discs any good?

    Thanks in advance, JC.

    @JesusC -

    - no worries, and google is indeed an amazing thing :)

    - firmware's up to date - http://sony.storagesupport.com/dvdrw/firmware.htm#530

    - DMA needs to be ON for that CD drive, fix by following this - http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/FAQ.htm

    - sufficient total memory but you need to always ensure sufficient free memory by closing down more programs prior to dvd work/burning

    - should be sorted by getting DMA back ON

Creaky I tried your listed suggestions. I know I changed the DMA setings but I went back and double checked the settings and found that the one drive in the previous log where it said that the DMA was off was set to "DMA if available" however the "Current Transfer Mode" was PIO.

To fix this I "Uninstalled" the Secondary IDE Channel which the drives were attached. Reset the computer and then uninstalled the drives and reset again. Now everything is set to DMA.

However, still no joy (log below) when using Nero to burn the video files. If that ain't enough when the process barfs it takes a matter of minutes, literly, for nero to register each click to exit. I then reset the computer to make sure everything is back to normal.

The disk that I, mention in my previous message, burned using TMPGEnc DVD (same media and files) worked in my DVD player. There were a few spots where the picture was pixelated but I found that this was done during the encoding process.

I'm open to suggestions but it seems that Nero (how, I don't know) does not like these disks. Is that possible? I've read posts on hardware and media not getting along but don't remember it being a problem with a software package. I haven't tried to burn data DVDs yet but I'm wondering if that is going to be any different.

    Thanks, JC

Knock, Knock, Knock... is this thing on :)))

Creaky, have I reached the bottom of your vast knowledge, or haven't you had time to answer? I understand either way just let me know and I'll try posting on the usenet groups or something. What ever the case may be I appreciate the help.

sorry, i've got a few replies i hadn't caught up on.

to me it's now down to one of two things, the burner isn't getting along with those discs, or the burner's not getting along well itself, ie it's failing..

i not so long back retired my trusty Sony DRU-700A after a couple thousand burns, took me a while to see that it was failing..

    Hello!

I have the same problem... I tried with Sony and Samsung discs but the problem didnt disappear and more strange that I can burn images with Alcohol. Is this a Nero problem?

    @kaidomav -

    - Nero is a little out of date, however your problem does not look like it's Nero-related

    - burner's firmware is up to date, but as at Nov 2004!, so is quite old now - http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=1876
This means the burner's firmware is ill-equipped to recognise newer media

    - DMA needs to be for that Toshiba drive, fix (turn DMA ON) by following this - http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/FAQ.htm

    - sufficient total memory however virtually no free memory so your PC will be using virtual memory ie a portion of hard disc; this in conjunction with DMA being OFF will be causing your problems

    - if the above fixes don't resolve your problem then try better media, these Optodisc are not too good

    - see all my comments

    Thanks for replying!

I turned On the Toshiba driver, but the problem still persists... how can I resolve the memory problem?

I tried to update the firmware using the firmware from sony website at this time (the first time, I use the firmware from the link that you show me).

no worries. just noticed a speeling mistake in previous reply.
anyway, to free up more memory you just need to close down as many programs as you can prior to starting the burn process. Also don't multitask during the burn ie leave PC alone while burning (just better to be sure of a good burn without any disk activity at same time as burn is trying to burn data from that same hard disc)
