   ok i connected the ipod mini to the usb port tht i bought used. and it turns on so tht the ipod says donot disconnect. and the comp says its connected in the little bar at the bottem. but when i open i tunes it says no ipod connected

   you need to install the ipod updater software which can be found here. Then hook your ipod up to the computer and run the updater.
