Is it worth installing linux/something similar

    Would it be worth installing linux/something similar on my pc?
    It is quite slow on running any more than two/three programs (eg gimp, wmp, firefox)

    The only programs id want are ffox, something to run my iPod off + play music, a torrent program and gimp, possibly all at the same time.
    I know id have to do a lot of reading, but if there was readme's that'd be enough- i can handle that.
    I can also install on an old (win98 ) machine to test it out beforehand.

    Alternatively, are there any WinMe compatible progs i can use to put music on my iPod + listen to music yet takes up v. little of my comps resources?

    linux can run perfectly on that hardware and at decent speeds. for ipod i would recommend yami pod and for music amarock. if you have never usd linux before i would recommend ubuntu or suse or mandriva. there are also so distros that are very resource friendly but not sure wich ones. janrocks could probably recommend a good distro for your hardware

    yes but will it run faster?
    if not then i wont even bother changing
