    Maxburn,

(Glad that you are sticking with me)

I probably wont contact Nero until next week. The good thing is - the drive itself does work and I have had plenty of successful burns with it - even with crappy media BEFORE I KNEW ABOUT CRAPPY MEDIA of course *L* (hanging head down very low - I used to use Memorex all the time [bold]before I found this site![/bold]) Now I only use Fuji, Ridata, Sony (well I havent bought any Sony's since the whole cd rootkit protection scam) but I still have an unfinished reel. The funny thing is - after I stopped using memosux, I found that the burning problems I USED to have - are far and few between! (sorry got off the subject a little bit...)

Anyway, I didnt know my lightscribe was missing anything until you posted that pic - then I got all excited and here we are *L*

So you also have a possessed drive. I dont get it - but like you said, once I contact nero - I bet they have something that will be an easy fix. they will probably take me through some baby steps on the comp to do this and that and then my lightscribe will be hosting via nero like yours.

Im running out of ideas too, but from the research I have done - it really seems like the Nero support will probably help the most because it seems to be the only thing I have found that is a general hosting software - that really should work with any lightscribe burner. In the meantime bewteen now and next week - I am going to go into that Intervideo program and do some testing. I figure, let me see ALL the stuff that is wrong with my drive so I will only have to contact HP one time if nero cant fix the hosting issue!! I really have to be in the right frame of mind to "deal with them"!

I've been using Lightscribe now for several months to make promotional CD's for my home remodeling and carpentry business. I burn these disks that contain thousands of pics of all the homes I've done and hang them on a peg for people to take. It's much better than a business card. People can pop that disc in their computer and see everything I've ever done. At 50 cents a blank CD, it's the best marketing tool out there.

For those who are interested here is the label I just printed onto my DVD using Canon Pixmar 4000, took 30 seconds to print and dried in less than 1 minute.

    Hey guys,

I'm not sure what all the fuss is about.

My BenQ doesn't go around saying, "I'm a LightScribe drive." I haven't done anything with my drive except, going to Nero's SmartStart and select "Print LightScribe Label". I setup my label on the template. select my BenQ 1625 as the burner and Click on the "Print" icon.

    So, what's the problem ?

    Scuba,

My nero was all messed up - The LS feature was not in there Period.

    ----------------------------------------------------------

    Editing message ---[bold]Update for Maxburn![/bold]

    No longer a problem.

MAXBURN - I had to do some [bold]more tweaking to my system. I did a restore[/bold] and another re-install of recovery apps and now it is showing up! I kept thinking something has to be corrupted ... IT WAS CORRUPTED.[bold]Thanks so much again for your help in this[/bold] - Of course, my drive is still possessed, but that no longer matters *L* computers are still temperamental!

    --------

Gwen, [bold]That looks great!![/bold] All the people using the printable disks rave about how fast it is - that is certainly something to consider.

Of course we can always "have our cake and eat it too" by having both a lightscribe burner, and an inkjet printer. I really think it is going to be a while before we see a LS disc be able to beat gwendolin's disc print there. Of course that costs a little bit more, and sort of defeats the whole purpose of the laser replacing ink, but, the price of inkjet disc printers is coming down.
    @zhelpz
Glad you got it fixed. Thanks ScubaPete with that Print LightScribe pic posted, i finally found it on Nero,,, DuuHHhh. Geees, that's where it hides, in the Extras. I never looked in the extra's part, always used the drive bundled Nero express like i posted. See zhelpz, if i would have done some more research on Nero itself, Lightscribe printing was there the whole time. Well, i never claimed to be Einstein. Live and learn..
You can learn something when helping someone.

    Maxburn,

[bold]Mine was not in my nero startsmart either. All the info you and I went over, plus what Scuba said, was not there. Something was wrong with my files.[/bold] I would have to be blind not to see these things IF I had them there *L*

It was my whole Nero program - LS Hosting was not the only thing missing. [bold]I had some other applications in Nero that were not working also.[/bold] I never thought about it because I just thought i had to pay extra for them. Come to find out, I was working with a half-baked nero. [bold]My files had been corrupted. The System restore fixed ALL of those issues.[/bold]

NOW, everything is working, everything is showing up where it is supposed to be. And the host in showing its head under Express, and in the advanced mode under extras.

Thanks for you [bold]additional[/bold] info too

    Maxburn,

You never claimed to be Einstein, but you did claim you were a higher being from another planet *LOL*

Besides, if it had not been a corrupt file situation, your advice WOULD have worked flawlessly, no doubt in my mind about that.

Speaking of livin' and learnin' I am just glad I waited to call Nero and HP! I was not ready to give up yet - I knew it had to be something that we could fix w/o their help. Whew! HP probably would have had me ship my whole computer back *LMAO*

    -------

I am really thinking about getting a printable anyway - all the ppl with the printables seem to be rally happy with them. And it seems like they ar getting there disks finished faster. I am going to wait for about 6 more months or so - and maybe go ahead and purchase one. You know when you wait a while, prices drop like flies!

    Scubapete,

I am looking at buyinga new laptop and the lightscibe technology is available with some of the models I am looking at.

I understand that once the actual files are burned you flip the disc over and it burnes the picture image on the other side.

Question is...How does the computer get the pic image? Do you need a scanner to import the original DVD's pic or what exactly?

    Thanks in advance

    @littlegun,

The "technology" is in the burner itself, not the PC BUT when shopping, lQQk for a laptop with a good burner. Every LightScribe burner made to date are all excellent burners in and of themselves :)

    That's exactly right.

The images I use come from scanning the original DVD OR from scanning the DVD cover BUT, many pple download their labels from the Internet then use them. I can sense you're wondering about a scanner. We now live in the world of the 2.0 USB connectors. I currently have 500 GB of Hard Drive hooked to my PC via USB PLUS 1 printer, a scanner/copier and 2 DVD burners. It's simply "Plug'n Play". You cannot go wrong.

Here's just 1 site to retrieve labels: http://www.cdcovers.cc/covers.php

    Cheers,

    To those it applies too,

As you saw by my screenshot, I had trouble understanding what everyone was talking about BUT, as Jesus said to the men in the boat while "WoW'em" them on the shore, "It's really easy guys, you just have to know where the rocks are."

Well, I've run out of room to put a disc printer and I've always had excellent results using Neato products and their, Ooohh, so easy applicator to insure my labels go on evenly.

Again, different strokes for different folks ~

Now, has anyone heard anything about DL LightScribe ? I'd use them in a "New York minute."

    ScubaPete,

If you are talking about the adhesive labels, and you use that round "label applicator" ... I used to use those a long time ago, BUT I found that the labels were destroying my disk play-back. I had to de-label at least 50 disks or so, but once I did, they played smooth again with no problems. Its been almost 2 years since I have used labels, but I know alot of ppl have had problems with their disks playback with them.

I guess you are one of the lucky ones with the label usage

still cant find this in my versions of nero.I'll skype you soon pete and try to clear it up.

    @ @ qwik3r2:

thanks for editing your post, just a tip.People cant differentiate between what you type and whether or not what you are typing is normal or being smart, SO WHEN A MOD directs you because he /she thinks you are being flippant, then it is in your best interest to accept it on the chin etc.You could always pm darthnip and explain what you meant, then its between you and him and not the entire forum. You'll find that most of the mods (yes i said most)are actaully quite approachable so it really up to you if you want to go the extra mile.As to your comment about abuse of power , your talking to the wrong person.Darthnips not like that.Think about what i've said its entirely up to you

Gwen, the DVD looks great! I assume it was copied on to a white DVD? I have a whole bunch, 200 gold DVD's. I hae 2 Canon s-900's and a Canon Pixima 6000. I might as well get me a Pixma 4000 if it works that well.

    @zhelpz,

Those would be the ones I refer too.

Over the past 4 to 5 years, I've done many thousands of DVD and CD discs and the only problem I've encountered was in the very beginning.. I used to apply the labels and seal them immediately in either plastic envelopes OR jewel cases and then, when playing them later, I experienced the labels delaminating and / or shifting. Then, speaking to friends still in the paint / adhesive business, they reminded me about the drying time of paints (dyes) and adhesives. I began to allow my discs to dry overnight and from then on, had little or no problem. About 2 years ago, Neato changed their adhesive and since then, zero problems.

Again, I feel that printable discs are, without a doubt superior to paper/ vinyl /foil labels. Also, because most pple don't allow their discs to dry properly, there is no question that LightScribe discs are superior to printable discs.

k well i'm done responding to useless posts against or about me, so back on track:

I find that the printed discs don't come out nearly as good as i thought that they would, as i said in my first post, i have a pixma 5000 which is a pretty darn good printer, i have the verbatim datalife plus white lable dvdr's and even messing with settings the quality isn't great, not sure if they make glossy dvdr's, perhaps i missed those. Anyway i also bought surething label's which those come out pretty good and usually spot on. I always w/o a doubt have a problem with lining up the dvd label to print spot on, even with the label tray that i have. I will probably wind up going with lightscribe in the near future, unless i can find some glossy dvdrs!

The hotel rowanda dvd that you printed, did you print it and scan it to show us? if so that looks spot on, do you have the disc tray, what program are you using to print with? I'm using the nero 7 labeler and as i said i can't get the suckers to print spot for nothing!
