sorry if this is a very stupid question (and i know it is), but i've skimmed several pages and didn't see an obvious answer. i'm thinking about getting an external lacie lightscribe DVD writer. it sounds pretty good, and the images several people have posted look amazing. can you also use regular (non lightscribe) discs in this? i suspect that, as people have said, the prices will continue to come down, but as they're more expensive than regular discs, can you use both? thanks.
Hello everyone Iam a newbie and Iam having trouble with a lightscribe drive not printing on the hole disk. I have a LaCie Drive and and it prints the hole disk sometimes, and sometimes it leaves the outeredge not completed. Any suggestions?
I know its been a few days but I have only just noticed this thread still active. Yes I do have a tray with my Pixma and I am using software that came with printer. The image is one that was scanned from a finished disc and I use Verbatim Ink jet printable discs
This is a good (though somewhat cantankerous)thread...So bump... El gringle {who just bought a R300} >Bump<
Hey Gringle, you old fox, just when I thought this thread was dead and buried. Just goes to show..you cant keep a good thread down. Congrats on your purchase, you wont be sorry, get your covers from http://www.cdcovers.cc , schmicko job. Cheers
I just got a new computer with lightscribe and I have made one disk I am useing HP Image Zone and it is kind of a pain to make the cover. What is the best program to make a label for lightscribe.
Wisherob, I use Nero's burning rom if you have it. Click on the lightscribe icon on the bar , go up to file , click new, which clears the disk. I usually put photos on my disks to personalize them. Click on the image tool and go to the picture that you want and open it. You can move it around and resize it to get your picture where you want it and locate the main features of the picture as you see fit around the disk's hole. Also if you want better results save your project and burn it one or two more times after the original burn for clearer results. The index marks on the disk take care of positioning for you. It works for me so far every time. Carp
Not sure if this question been address... I'm looking to get a LS. Is there another manufacture other than HP and BenQ producing LS? If they are the only ones, are they the same with a BenQ slapping on their badge? How reliable are HP LS? Since their storage media sucks (DVD+R & DVD-R.) I just don't want to buy it and feel sorry that I sould have waited and gotten a better LS.
scubapete, afterlooking at your picture of a lightscribe disc it looks pretty dark. I got a new laptop with the LS technology and burned 2 "etched" 2 discs but they look faily hazy/light in comparison. I used the "Best setting". Someone had mentioned to "etch" them 2 or more times to get a really good picture...your thoughts?
Gwendolin, what brand of Ink Jet Printable disc are you using. I have had my best luck with Ty-Yuden dixc. Thanks
Thanks a bunch, you are a good Aussie. What speed of media are you using? I have been using 4x and had excellent luck with the Ty-Yuden. The only Ty-Yuden inkjet printables I can get are 8x. I hope they will work okay??? I have tried Ritek-Riata, Sony, Maxwell and had my best results with Ty-Yuden with very few coasters. Actually the coasters will work on other DVD players but not my Pioneer 531H. duh.....
@andmerr, remember I live in the "Backwoods" of q'ld. We've only just got electricity and oh yeh, moving pictures. LOL @Tashacat, I do all my burning at 4x, works well for me.

You know what i find interesting, the fact that i never took into consideration why my discs have begun to skip, until i read a few posts up about label's possibly being the issue. It is true though, on 2 discs i have made certain parts freeze or skip completely, i'm about to forgo a nice looking label for a functioning disc.
I found media to be my problem. I have always used labels with no problem. I used Ritek-Riata, Maxwell and got pretty good results. Since I started using Ty-Yuden DVD media, made in Japan, I have had no skips or digitizing at all.
Gwendoline, I just got my new Canon Pixma ip4000. Can you tell me how to print a DVD label on the CD/DVD? Thanks
