Is my laptop burner ok to use?

i have one of these lite-ons, it replaced my 8 year old Pioneer 108C which still worked and made well over a thousand burns in its life. the only reason i replaced it was my new computer lacked a IDE controller.

the lite-on was a more critical luck decision. there are two types of the same drive the iHAS124-Y older more robust and built to last, the iHAS124-C on the other hand is whats considered a throw away drive and by what Ive heard garbage.

its a 50/50 chance

As my luck would have it i Got a Y variant, lucky me. now if i could win that lottery.

Ok...I bit the bullet and bought a pioneer 115d....I hope this will do the job!

 

that should work, and there is no way to tell the Y variant from the C variant.

 

So let me get this right...... I have a laptop with a Slimtype DVD A DS8A4S. There is no way I can rip an Xbox 360 game with this drive??

 

I am not sure mate...I an internal for my desktop and 4 burns with cheapo discs all worked fine!

 

Ok, I've read all about the "hot swapping" and putting specific firmware on but obviously you can't "hot swap" a dvd in a laptop
