Nero is good. Tennessee Volunteers are lucky. Cornhuskers are GREAT. Life is good. I use DVDDECRYPTER, then make it region free. 2. DVD2ONE 1.4 ver, then Nero 6 Ultra edition to burn DVD-MOVIE in selection. Q Always make a folder called "Movie name_BURN" and then make another folder in that called VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS and point to the target as the VIDEO_TS folder when in DVD2ONE. Never a coaster..ever.

PS>> Tennessee is good football team and Nebraska needs to fire the athletic director not the coach!

I hope you mean they are lucky in that they have a good coach and athletic director, not lucky to win games. They have the highest winning % in the country being in the SEC, probably the tuffest conference in the country. Nebraska is a consistently good team every year also, but they don't have the schedule UT does. It's almost impossible to go undefeated in the SEC. This year alone we play Florida, Auburn, Georgia, Alabama, And Notre Dame. Nebraska plays Oklahoma, Pittsburg(questionable) ,Colorado, and oh yeah Kansas(?). BTW, welcome to AD.

    Hey VLJ,
Thought this thread had died a sorry death. You forgot the Basketball Wildcats. I'm a Big Orange football fan as well. I'm one of those border ruffians.

Some good choices on the software. Good choice on the Decrypter. Powerful tool and has worked well for me a long time. Don't know why you want to go region free all the time. DVD Decrypter will reset the region code to whatever you want. The new version has a pop up screen that addresses just that issue. If you don't have the latest version, check it out.

DVD2one is a good program no doubt. But I don't use it all the time. I use it pretty much for flippers and 2 disc movies. And yes, the Nero Burning ROM is one of the best on the market.

Now with all that said, and since you have the Nero Ultra (which should have Recode2), try opening the Recode2 and importing one of those DVD Decrypter movie files. You'll be in for a pleasant surprise.

And since you're moving up on the learning curve, why don't you give the ISO read mode a little workout and put some ISO files on the HD? With an emulator like Daemon, the software will read the file like a disc. I've had flawless success with the ISO. Decrypt with DVD Decrypter in ISO read mode, load the ISO file into the emulator Daemon (another freebie), the software of choice can then pick up the simulated drive and use the file as it would normally use a disc. With ISO read you only get 2 files, the ISO and an MDS. The mds if for the software and the ISO is the entire movie file which you use. A program like Recode 2 can edit out any of the files you want to delete. You can split it down to movie only. You can even set different compression levels for segments in a recording. I'll usually compress the menus and extras so the movie will have less compression when I do an entire disc. And I get good results with high capacity movie discs.

The only reason I would consider using the IFO now would be for multi angle support (you gotta check the box). It is so rare that I want to switch an angle, I haven't used it. 'Others' is about the only multi angle movie, other than a bunch of the Disneys, that use the multi angle format that I've encountered. How often do you switch the angle even when they're there?

Saves a lot of chasing down files when using ISO, unless you just enjoy the process. We get caught in our own habits sometimes. Happy burning and remember the old saying, there's more than one way to skin a cat. Lots of good software and more than one way to do the job. Try some of the stuff I mentioned, nothing to buy and if nothing else, an entertaining way to kill a rainy afternoon.

brobear, there's a new version of decrypter? I've been using the same one for 6 months now. What's the diff? sometimes the newer version is worse than the old one, case in point, rebuilder v.53.

Pretty much the same Big O, just a few improvements. I was so complacent, I used the version I had until recently. I noticed the multi angle support in IFO, one of Pete's issues. I agree with Sophocles that the problem tends to be more in the recording software than in the decrypted files. Then there is the new region setting screen that will pop up sometimes. Basicly the same good old Decrypter with some improvements. It still does the same great job of decrypting, if not better in the IFO mode. But then, I'm an ISO fan.

Just so ye all know. I learned with IFO and made the choice to use ISO after learning both methods.

version 3.2.2.0 is the number. That pop up region control makes it a more internationally friendly program.

Thanks for the "welcome". I actually only make all the movies region free because I can. Kind of like Overclocking my CPU sometimes... just because I can. I always thought if there was someone in Germany to exchange DVD's with it would be kind of intersting. I could watch German dubbed films and they could watch English language originated films. I really would like to get ahold of a German "American" movie with the subtitles still in there as English. I think it would be educational.

Nebraska has lost a lot of steam and credibility these past few years and firing the head coah won't make a lot of die-hard fans happy.

Brobear I'll have to give those ideas of your a go. I highlighted and printed them out to read later in the actually process.

I have used Nero Vision express to take the MPEG-2 files I created from my 8mm camcorder, (into the computer via my Leatek WinFast 2000 Xpert card) and make a home movie out of it on DVD. The problem is, that the Leadtek makes a great MPEG-2 compressed file and does break them appart at the proper size (I have FAT32), but when I get the movie ready to burn to DVD the silly program re-codes everything and now I end up with less quality than the originals. It does make IFO files, VOB files, and all the compliant stuff but recoding just adds another grain of loss to the whole thing.

I've heard things about Ulead Video Studio 9 for doing some good 8mm to DVD compliant stuff. Any thoughts? I really bought Nero 6 Ultra to do this job as it has Nero Vision Express and thought it would do a good job. It does an 'average' job. Does make chapters.. does make vob files, does make titles.. Does not make high quality DVD files though.. not all the time.

One word of advice. Upgrade to the NTFS system. Fat has a file size limitation. It has to split files above 4GB. As for the 8mm, you left my field of expertise. Sophocles appears to be more knowledgable along those lines. You might want to post the question on the Digital Video Discussion section here at AD. I've heard Sophocles mention video capture and DVD, so if you can track him down, he might be of assistance.

800mhz is a little slow and the hangs are probably caused by an overheated CPU. Video encoding is very CPU intensive and if you have a stock fan then overheating is very likely. To fix this you could buy a better fan/heat sink combo, and upgrade your CPU to as high a speed as your board supports.

aero, 3 months isn't "lateness of a reply" it's missing persons! lol

There is nothing at all wrong with having more than one backup app, I have about 25 and sophocles probably has more than that! lol

BigO is right, having a number of recording programs is no problem. Just don't try running more than one at a time. Programs running in the background can often be a problem.

Yep, 3 months is missing persons.

Just out of curiosity, what did you do to get things working?
