im wondering if theres a program (preferably freeware) that can change the thumbnail previews of video files in xp, to a frame of your choosing. the default thumbnail previews in xp seem to be set to the first frame of a video and if the first frame is just a black screen (which is often the case) then it makes having a thumbnail preview a bit pointless. ive been looking around but havent found anything yet, but am quite suprised because i thought this would be a simple program.

I came up with this, and it used all free stuff. Is it what your looking for?

I personally select "view file as a thumbnails" and not "Film strip", which makes the image larger.

yes, but what program is that?

1trubing, it would be possible to write a batch file which examines each mpg, avi etc file, then run an Avisynth script to dump the Nth frame of each to a like named jpg...

    Google for Avisynth
