I need to capture a lot of preciuos Hi8-tapes to my pc for editing and burning to dvd.

My camcorder (Panasonic GS120) has no analog input, so I need some sort of capture card or device for the pc.

Is my old tv card (Hauppauge WinTV Theater Model 498) any good for this? Or should I buy one of the fancy new from boxes from Plextor and others, that simply connect to the usb-port?

I want little or no detoriation of the Hi8-quality - and certainly on sync-problems with the sound.

Any suggestions on hardware? And if I can use my old tv-card, what software should I use? I am not even sure if the WinTV Theater works under Windows XP. Last time I had it installed Windows 98 was the brand new thing...
