Is using SSL REALLY safe?

    I am familiar with Bitorrent, and am aware fully how public it is downlading through it.

    I recently came across Giganews (usenet), I wanted to know how "private" and "secure" using SSL really is?

    these days when your isp can packet sniff and trace (illegal wiretapping by dictat) no.. if they aint got you by the credit card you paid the pirate thieving scum from they got you by ip...

    Thats a real eye opener, but if they were sniffing packets illegaling cant you make a counter claim stating they did that?

    And which pirate theieves are you talking about here?
