Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware will remove the XP Antivirus and the joke-bluescreen.c virus.
Free download, free to use as well.
Not complicated to use, just run the scanner and then have it remove what it finds.

    2OG,
OK... As i said last night, I followed your steps from last night right thru to defrag and I still have the blue screen; the system appears fine, no reboots (which it never did but others have complained about).

    What else can I do?

    thx,
    Lou

    loup18,

Just what kind of blue screen do you have?

Have you tried right click on desktop goto properties then desktop tab and setting a different desktop..

    2OG,

The blue screen was a simple bright blue background - I have changed it to something else.

HOWEVER, I am noticing that the system is running slow which is pausing me at times as I do work (i.e. work on spreadsheets, open email, type letters).

Appears there is something slowing down the system.

BTW, the PC is 4 weeks old, brand new Dell OptiPlex 755.

    Thx,
    Lou

Got the nasty CNN.com email virus that downloaded the Antivirus xp 2008 and the Blue-Screen Joke viruses to my computer. Yes, I know, how could I be that stupid. Anyway, after a few days of using various spyware cleaners/removers, and manually deleting infected files, I think I got just about everything. But, my SYSTEM RESTORE is still not working. The virus won't let me go back to a previous date on the calendar. It's obviously a phony screen just like the Appearance and Themes screen was before I fixed that. How to I fix this? Anybody have any ideas.

Start a new thread and post a HJT Log.. That way more people can see your request and you’ll be more likely to get some help..

    Hello ps2625,

Windows Defender, formerly known as Microsoft AntiSpyware

I can’t recommend a Spyware/malware software by Microsoft, it’s just not their bag.

The ONLY Anti malware / Anti Trojan program that I recommend is:
Comodo BOClean protects your computer against trojans, malware and other threats. It constantly scans your system in the background and intercepts any recognized trojan activity. The program can ask the user what to do, or run in unattended mode and automatically shutdown and remove any suspected trojan application. Comodo BOClean currently supports more than 59000 malware items and offers automatic daily updates. Other features include updating via network share, tamper protection and stealth mode.

    Download and install: Comodo BOClean

It stops Vundo and Antivirus 2008 and if all these poor malware collectors used it, I would be out of a job… [IMG]

I followed your first steps 2oldgeek and restarted my computer. Now when my computer boots up it logs me out before any of the desktop icons come up and when I try to log back in, I instantly get logged out. What should i do?

I have no idea what steps you followed. If you had read the thread thoroughly you may have seen this warning that I issued to another.

All computers are different and require different tools and methods of using those tools.

The only advice I can give you is; start a thread, post a HijackThis Log and wait for someone who can (hopefully) help you..
