Quite bluntly, what are the benefits of moving up ranks?

Nothing really - only benefit I guess is a change in title.
All the title is based on is how many posts you've made (outside of the safety valve) - nothing to do w/ quality.

I wish they were a little different, "senior member" sounds fine, kind of dignified, but "Afterdawn addict" sounds like some kind of seriously sad person who spends all their time looking for questions to answer on here, when they could be, well, having a life! ;-)

    Maybe it's intentional...

Quite frankly, nothing at all. Oh, apart from when you reach Junior Member you can use the Report Offensive Post button.

And Indochine, I didn't use to have a life - why do you think I'm an aD Addict?! :p

Jeez, I'm nearly double Addict count now..

    - it has it's moments, like watching most posters go up the 'ranks' without being sat on by a moderator (obviously that's a good thing) and providing good help to newcomers, or how many times certain 'ranked' posters get temp-banned for utter childishness & stupidity, yet continue to come back after said temp-bans, being just as childish :)

..and the killer thing is, the latter, know exactly who they are (as do the general populous), yet it's amusing to watch them descend further into immaturity, they're like lemmings

I'd prefer to be referred to as a toad in future - lemming is SO not me!

Haha, only joking, my sheet is clean ;-)

And lemming is just fine xP

its basically meant for respect. But here on aD, things have gotten a little out of control. Dont worry about rank ;-). People tend to think of it as age maybe? the higher more knowledge. But even the younger guys here are pretty intelligent (cough cough, me. ) hehe :p kidding.

Sorry, but I'm 15 and managed to make it to aD Addict without running about the place being a complete jackass and getting bumped off.

Shame most of the teenage population here are either stupid or ignorant, or both.

Ripper, I'm glad you said that! If I had said it, people would assume I was biased because of my age. (I am considerably older than 15!)

I'm always the first to back up people because someone has had a stab at their age. I see it a lot in every day life and, to some extent, have to tolerate it, but online... well, you do the math.

Having said that, I am aware that most of the morons on here are of my sort of age.

    :)

People do say, there's no fool like an old fool. Meaning, I suppose, that as you get older there is less and less excuse for certain kinds of idiocy. Doesn't stop it happening though...

You should see another forum I am a regular on. It seems to have a segment of the membership who are aged about 13 who all think they are code wizards, but who commit all the classic teenage errors, such as wildly overestimating their own knowledge, of assuming that "if I haven't heard of something, it doesn't exist (or matter)", of believing that "MS-DOS was invented around 1890", of failing to read a question properly before shooting from the hip with the wrong answer, etc etc.

Haha, I'm somewhat intrigued as to where that might be.

The said state of affairs doesn't suprise me though..

I've been to the "help database" thing for an answer one or two times. Obviously missed the fact they have a forum, lol.

I'll take that as a compliment...

Don't get me wrong, there are some very smart people on there, and I have picked up quite a few useful tips.

It wasn't meant to spite you in any way. I was more going by the fact that IMO you have a writing style which I feel would be recogniseable. :)
