Is there a way to keep only the menu and main feature using simple Mac apps? I don't need the extras, so a full disc extraction is pointless, but i really like keeping the menu (even though only the play button will work, plus any chapter selection). Selecting any of the "extras" should do nothing.

I seem to remember someone doing this with just MTR and DVD2ONEX, but I can't remember how.

I believe if you rip movie only in MTR it does keep the menu. But it starts right into the feature when you put the disc in. The problem is that there is still a bug with MTR that makes some discs unplayable when you rip in that mode. (v 2.6.6).

When MTR 2.7 comes out that should solve the problem.

First use MTR to extract the whole disc.

In the Finder list the files in the VIDEO_TS folder and make sure the Size column is visible. The main feature will have a group of 3 or more VOB files with a size of 1024 MB followed by a smaller VOB file. Keep these and any other files that begin with the same first six characters (VTS plus the underscore character plus a 2-digit number).

One by one remove sets of other files that have a different 2-digit number and test in DVD Player. This will require a little trial and error and you will likely lock up DVD Player several times as you go through this process. Start with larger sets of files first as this will remove the extra features. Make sure you just move these out of the folder and don't trash them in case they need to go back in.

You are done once you have removed all the files you can and still have the chapter menus available. After you burn the DVD keep in mind that trying to select any of the extras from the menu will lock up your dvd player.
