hi dRD i don't think any of us believes that really true....but i've been floating around here since 2004 ( lurking and learning for about 6/9mths) before bucking up the courage in 2005 to join and ask my first question. there are still a few (not many) of us left from then, here now. i suppose that that means we also will become the unforgotten nicks in a little while of course all your points are valid, but are you looking at it as from an admin point of view...or as a member seeing it from a forum point of view i've seen a couple of forums that have had the through traffic, but not the forum activity, die the death.(of course they were a lot smaller than AD and couldn't weather the storm) it's not the through traffick that makes a forum great (it's good for the stats and advertizers) it's the members and the quality of their answers that do. it just seems that standing on the outside looking in...at the moment we've lost the "great" anyway..back to lurking for a couple of years and sea a few more changes @ Ripper yep! trouble was..i am slower than a snail with a broken leg in the typing department and was always getting the p*ss taken out of me before i could reply lol
gurnard: You might be right about the forum starting to go downhill, but my hunch is the opposite. I'd say that the same old thing happens again and again -- something "new" in tech comes along that then sparks the discussion forum posting activity to new levels, new guys start posting like maniacs, etc until the "hype" surrounding that particular tech fades away and we end up with a current "nothing major to spark conversations" situation. After all, unlike many, many forums in the world, we've never encouraged "off-topic" discussions, but tried to people to focus on tech. If you look at some old tech forums that still get plenty of posts, most of those posts are to "Off-topic" forum rooms, where people chat about chicks' bums, cars, etc. Whereas with aD, the huge majority of posts are mostly "on-topic". But hey, that's life. We do try to push more and more people to post their questions and answers -- with the new site, we've addressed some of those issues: replying is much more easier (reply box at the bottom), registration can be handled _after_ you've posted, logging in is much more straight-forward than what it used to be, etc. Furthermore, the new Q&A area (or tech support as we call it) gives another angle to the tech issues, for those users who aren't comfortable with forums. But ye, I hear you and we try to do our best to keep the discussion forums as "virile" as possible
...speaking of which. Inasmuch as I don't run Vista or W7 and there seems to be little traffic in the forums that interest me, I'm pulling the plug and becoming a lurker. May God help those toiling in the Nero mines:TTFN over and out.
@ attar hi nor me (must be dinosaurs) i've just made you an honoury member of my "SUPER LURKERS" club you bum you mean to tell me i've got to start reading nero logs again that'll cock it up then (still using 6.) don't know much about 7/8/9 etc. sorry to sea you go....but with a little luck you won't lurk to far away Geoff
OK, based on this thread, I'm trying to be a "kinder, gentler" DaiLun, but one look at the Tech Support forum and I find it very difficult to do so. When you get posts like "speed up Win XP" or "What do three flashing lights mean", with no addl. information, I don't feel like getting into a "tug-of-war" trying to drag a meaningful description out of the poster. If the poster shows a litle effort, I'm glad to respond in kind. Spoon feeding? That's a little different.
Ah, tech support is something completely different It is an experiment we're conducting that will actually evolve technically quite a lot during the next couple of months. It is not a discussion forum and has quite a lot of differences compared to a discussion forum -- most notably, of course, the fact that you can post anonymously there. But also in a way that it allows only questions and answers -- you can't answer to an answer. And believe me, it will be moderated more harshly than aD's forums. Just in completely different way (I'm going through it personally, for now, every now and then and simply _delete_ stupid questions -- and stupid answers).
hi to be honest, until dRD had mentioned it above i hadn't looked. so deliberatly had a look and had to chuckle to myself, and thought it was a waste of space (sorry boss) still it may keep the spammers in one place.
gurnard, won't keep the spammers in 1 place as i still see them in different forum on this site. 1 spammer today started 5 different thread in 5 different forums but i still got the bugger.
i usually do at least 1/2 dozen spammers a day, both posted & non-posted. that includes the blasteriods site too.
tell me about it...in it's dying threws BB became a spammers heaven and i spent most off my time chasing and zapping 'em. then "the man" decided to fold the site without a by-your-lieve or thank you and peace descended upon the house of gurnard
I've been more of a lurker as of late, as there really isn't much to do in the dvd forums. Most of the answers have boiled down to basically make sure your programs are up to date, and if they are, wait till a new version comes out.
It does seem very quiet lately, i've been busy doing other things too, so i'm more of a lurker at the moment; it just feels like it's one of those forum 'waves', where we're waiting for the next new group of regulars or something. It's good to see a few familiar, regular faces though (like most in this thread), good to see you guys.
I had a look at this thread cause i was bored. All the older members still seem to be here and there are newbies but there doesn't seem to be as many posts as normal.i joined back in 2005 and this site was very busy back then.occasionally its busy but alot of the time its newbie after newbie asking the same question over and over.Kinda gets annoying answering the same question over and over.I've been on other forums and some of them have died completely they have members but no activity for 6months or longer.glad this forum is still running.
Yep, just like I said previously -- pretty much everything related to X360 modding, DVD Shrink, etc has been asked, answered and solved already. There isn't one single huge thing currently that would spark discussion. It seems to me that "purchasing a new PC, what parts to choose" and Win7 problems are getting more traction that the old skool topics, like DVD ripping, video encoding, console modding, etc. Obviously, forum rooms will change in future to reflect the trends, as they've always done.
Thats me too Ray. I am not sure how many more times someone can ask why Shrink does not work with Win 7 , when Creaky has a dedicated thread telling that it does. lol
I believe both of y'all mean they have to SEARCH for it first before they can read it. That search function has helped me greatly my years here.
