legalities of dvd movie backups??????

    I normally make backups of my Ps2 dvd games just because they get handled so much ...and I would not like to shell out more money for games I purchased once already just because they were scratched and what not...I know that if I own the original I am legally entitled to have a backup of the game (software) Is this also true for movies??????
