Lol indeed, although Ginsters have made a pretty good job of making sure you can get a good pasty anywhere in the county.

Wise and very true words. In 10years (both kids are under 10) i've smacked both my kids once each, maybe twice each, TOTAL. And regretted it each time, each time being a failure on my part to, well, retain respect and control. As for Afterdawn posters, well....

Even if one sides with the pro-spanking side of this constant debate, I'm sure they'd agree that there is a big difference between a spanking and outright child abuse. I don't work in that dept. but I've heard some horror stories about kids having their butts strapped to the point where their bleeding, tissue damage, permanent scarring and hospitalized. Life wife beaters, they're sorry for a bit and then do it all over again when they lose their tempers.

My Dad had a nasty belt that he used on more than a few occasions. I'm sure I deserved it. But his best was saved when I was in the first grade in Albuquerque. It seemed I and my best bud liked to build fires. We're six now and know everything. Well, we ended up not putting one quite out and it burned some lady's wooden fence down and probably nearly her house. Dad had a policeman show up at my house unannounced and the cop took me screaming from under my bed, by myself, to the city jail where I got a tour of the place. I've been paranoid of police ever since. Dad also warned me that the next time I played with matches, he would put one in my ear and light it. We only built small ones after that. True story! We were bad-then I moved to Louisiana and became worse. I turned out OK tho as long as I'm on my meds and don't violate my parole. J/K LMAO

Corporal punishment, that we baby boomers received, led to the generation now; that don't give a flip about anything and don't want to work. We gave our offspring everything and never made them work for it and we didn't discipline our kids correctly. IMHO

@garmoon ... my parents weren't big on corporal punishment but I remember that old alligator type belt even if was rarely used (Now the nuns were a different story!) The worst I remember though was when I was 12 or 13. Although I didn't do it, I threatened to hit my mother and Dad went ballistic; I must kissed all four walls. (I had an oncle who was a total basket case when he came back from the second world was and beat my aunt and his kids pretty severly a couple of times. My dad talked my aunt into leaving him and she moved in with us although I was too young to remember.)

I believe in corporal punishment, but often it is misused and misunderstood. Beating children with belts, switches (varying size tree limbs), coat hangers, ropes, hoses and such are inappropriate. A spanking should be more psychological than physical to begin with. It's showing the child that you're extremely displeased with their behavior. By the time a child reaches their early to mid teens, spankings are no longer effective. By that stage you're threatening physical abuse as an effort to control the child. If the parent hasn't gained some respect and is able to reason with the child, then it's time for social services. Parents hate to give up, but some children deserved to be locked up. My children were spanked when smaller, but I never spanked one as a teen.

We eat them here in Minnesota, too. The Finnish brought them to our area.

There are the pasties for strippers.

The words are spoken differently, at least here in Minnesota.

The strippers pasties are sounded with the long a, as in paste.

The pasty that you eat is sounded with the short a, as in past.

An oggy or pasty as you call it looks very similar to a calzone. Italian or Italian/American in origin I think. :p

I don't know what this has to do with "complaining" but I'm not happy that you people are talking about food that I'd love to try. Is that a complaint?? :p

Yeah but a Calzone is a pizza inside and is also awesome, but not the same.

As for a profile page, I couldn't think of what to put on one, so I haven't made one yet.

We have a West Cornwall Pasty co in York near my university, I must try it then if you say they're good.

Here is an extremely minor update on my car:

Well, I found out the closest dealer is ~5 minutes or less away from where I got the car, which means I could take it over to the dealer after I get it looked at. However, the soonest I can take my car in is about a week and half out (Aug 7th to be exact).

Hopefully my car doesn't overheat or something crazy like that before then. The car has been ok temperature wise while I have been driving which is good. Neither the oil nor the coolant has gotten anywhere near the "Scary-but-not-going-to-overheat-yet" level. They have both stayed about where they need to but, its still scary.

However, as I said yesterday, at least the dealer is willing to work with us on getting a different car depending on whats wrong with it. From what my dad said, I probably will get a different car though because from what he knows about cars the problem its having means the whole engine has to be replaced. :-(

I will keep you guys updated on what happens when I take it in.

    Peace
