Happy birthday, Gerry. You are a couple of years younger than me. I hope that you don't catch me, for some time to come. :)

Thanks all! Most people don't celebrate as much as the years progress but my circumstances are a bit unique: in my family, you live to be over 100 (Dad will be 100 in June) or you die at 50!! This has put me in a rather precarious position over the last few years (knock on wood LOUDLY LOL!).

Hope that birthday was a good one and you have a hundred or so better ones. :)

My bitch is that my hull is rusty, my motor was out of commission, and I ended up going in circles (the steering cable broke). In other words, my old houseboat was needing work and I spent the last several days on the lake getting things together and putting the boat in dry dock. I ended up using my pontoon boat as a tug. That was the work part of having fun.

@brobear,What are you bitching about? At least you got to spend a couple days on the lake! I hope the weather was good.

LOL It was raining a lot. I forgot to bitch about that. The nice part is I have the toys to play with and still able to enjoy them, even if it takes some work sometimes. The rain broke about mid morning and I was able to take the houseboat to the dry dock facility under tow. I steered out of the mooring area before the steering cable broke.

Being able to get out on the lake is nice anytime (unless the wind is so bad it's trying to blow you away, which is a nice time to be off the lake). I've enjoyed boating for over 20 years and owned my houseboat for about the last 10.

Sorry about the crappy weather! It appears you have your work cut out for you on that houseboat. Are you planning on doing the repairs yourself?

Only some of the repairs, I know when it's time to bring in the pros. The dry dock facility is going to do the sandblasting and any hull repairs. My son is helping and we will do the painting and refurbishing on the house part. The boat is an antique, but we've upgraded the electrical system to handle AC, and other electrical appliances. Originally it was only wired for lights.

I am like you in that way,I prefer do the work myself, but I do know my limitations. When I reach them I reluctently call in the pros myself.

Do you know...I almost for got that I too have something to bitch about. I am having an ongoing dilemma on what video card to buy.The problem is there are way too many choices even for my low budgit!
This is driving me insane and I'm running out of time.Any suggestions on an under $130.00 PCI-E card?

AT the present moment I have it narrowed down to X800GTO or GF7600GS.

My bitch is about people who live on their cell phones and ignore the rest of the world, rude, loud obnoxious, trivial conversations, in quiet public places, phones on the road, not watching who you are running into, over, or thru..Hang up and pay attention!

Along with that you can add having a 3 course meal and a bottle of wine and I'm still good to go. LOL Seriously though, with all the accidents, some people should be tested to see if they can walk and chew gum at the same time.

http://stores.tomshardware.com/search_attrib.php?page_id=5&form_keyword=video+cards&rd=1 There's a link to Stores at Tomshardware. Good search engine for anything PC (and more). I'm biased toward ATI Radeon cards myself. I considered the X850 as low as I was willing to go on this PC, check the sig. With all the new cards being released, the older tech is going down drastically. If you added about $50 to your budget, you'd be able to pick up a much better card, irregardless of being Radeon or nVidia. The guys on this thread were discussing cards earlier, so I'm sure some would have an opinion for you. http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/127/235934

@brobear,I have made my decision. The Evga 7600GS seems to be a good card for now,the reviews were good, the price $100.00 after $20.00 rebate is good and to top it off the manufacturer will give you full credit if you decide to upgrade within 90 days.Teamed up with an Amd 3800x2 and the Asus A8N-E I'll be getting a nice rig for around $500.00 All said and done.

    Thanks for the references though!

I don't know if you're on a strict budget or not, but if there's an extra $100, look at what you could go with. In my book, this processor is probably the best bang for the buck going right now.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16819103586 Take a look at the memory on that baby and the binning is better for the Opteron series. Add a good Zalman cooler and you've got a CPU you can OC to run with the best.

Even if you're not going to use SLI now, if it's in the future, buying a capable board now wold save in the long run. The superior cooling of the high end A8N boards make them a good choice for OC(ing) as well. But if it's a budget deal, the A8N-E is a good choice.

By the way, I'm not plugging Newegg. They're not always the best deal. They do have good ads with specs though, along with pictures of the item. Using the Stores search at Tomshardware saved me a bundle on the last build.

You should check out the tech thread I gave you, we discuss builds there. http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/127/235934 We're getting in the way of the bitching here. LOL

@brobear,Thanks for the links/suggestions,I will continue this conversation with you "over there".

As far as us getting in the way of the bitching, there does not appear to be much of it going on here lately. Perhaps this conversation will give them a reason to bitch again!lol!!
