    MY BITCH FOR TODAY,AND HES PUSHING VISTA FOR MORE BUCKS TO ADD TO HIS POCKET

    Bill Gates, still the richest man

    p2pnet.net news:- The rich are getting even richer with Microsoft's Bill Gates and his friend, Warren Buffet, chairman of Berkshire Hathaway Inc, right at the top of the heap.

    "Gates' fortune rose $6 billion to $56 billion last year, while Buffett garnered in an additional $10 billion to boost his net worth to $52 billion," says Associated Press.

    How much money can one human being use?

    Gates and Buffet are called philanthropists, donating to causes they or theirs designate while the mind-boggling fortunes they've accumulated increase exponentially, with no effort on their part.

    Forbes celebrates them as something wonderful, together with 944 other billionaires, saying their combined wealth has grown 35% since last year to $3.5 trillion.

    That's an unimaginable amount. It has no meaning. But neither does one billion, come to that, especially when one considers there are hundreds of millions of people around the world living, if one can call it that, in absolute povery, and with no hope of salvation in this lifetime.

    Something is very badly wrong somewhere.

    Congressman Hollywood: Universities a wretched hive of scum and villainy

    By Ken Fisher | Published: March 09, 2007 - 11:14AM CT

    Rep. Howard Berman (D-CA) is a controversial figure. As we noted in our report on the new chair of the House Subcommittee on Courts, the Internet and Intellectual Property, Mr. Berman is a staunch supporter of Hollywood and the entertainment industry in general. When Berman ascended to the chair of that subcommittee, it was assumed that Hollywood's agenda would receive increased attention.

    And so it has. Berman has announced that he is accelerating his subcommittee's hearings on piracy at American colleges and universities, and he is preparing an multi-fronted attack on what he characterizes as the hypocrisy of higher-education in the United States. Berman is upset by the apparent difficultly both the RIAA and the MPAA are having working with universities to catch file sharers. "Perhaps the most ironic issue is that many universities expect others to respect and protect their IP rights to scholarly works and inventions, but seem to disregard or close their eyes to the theft of the creative works of others," Berman said in a statement released by his office.

    Calling the impact of piracy on the entertainment industry "devastating," Berman says that there is "little debate" on just how serious it is. There is, of course, considerable debate on the extent of piracy and its impact on entertainment goods. A recent study demonstrated that there is no scientific basis for ascribing economic loss to P2P music sharing, and similar studies have also questioned the true effects of movie piracy on the bottom line.

    Regardless, Berman wants to hone in on colleges and universities, because they are bastions of piracy in his view. Berman cites the shockingly flawed LEK Piracy Study from 2006 to note that 44 percent of "losses" (tricky concept) stem from student piracy. He also criticizes schools for largely refusing to participate in a GAO study on piracy, arguing that they fear being "held accountable."

    "Unfortunately, many schools have turned a blind eye to piracy," Berman said. "I don't doubt that there are legitimate issues that universities must grapple with, including privacy and cost concerns. However, when a university such as Purdue tells the AP that it rarely even notifies students accused by the RIAA because it is too much trouble to track down alleged offenders—such inaction is unacceptable."

    Berman expresses hopes that further "lists" of the most piracy-ridden schools will help shame them into compliance, and he says that he hopes to see a similar list from the MPAA soon while calling for periodic releases of such lists to gauge compliance.

    Berman's real threat lies in the law, however. Berman hints that his subcommittee will consider legislation designed to spur colleges and universities into taking a more active role. "I am concerned that current law isn't giving universities enough incentives to stop piracy," he said. "Indeed, the statistics demonstrate that students engage in rampant piracy, and while Congress has given universities many exemptions from copyright liability it might be time to condition some of those exemptions on action taken by universities to address the piracy problem."

    Lord Vader would be pleased.

    I believe it was Auslander who complained about all sort of things being blocked from his college dorm. When I was his age, all porn was on paper, you could record anything you wanted on cassette tape though the VCR wasn't invented yet. God I'm old!

    @Neph...I liked the Mu Sho joke...my second favorite chinese...second only to Peking Duck.

    Stealth' gonorrhoea on the rise

    * 16:34 09 March 2007
    * NewScientist.com news service
    * Lisa Hitchen
    Stealth" strains of gonorrhoea that fail to show up in tests are on the rise across the world, researchers have discovered, because the tests used by doctors to identify the bacteria look for an enzyme no longer present in those strains.

    The rising prevalence of these strains was found in Australia, New Zealand, England, Scotland and Denmark. The findings should prompt clinics to change practice and use at least two tests that work in different ways to detect the infection, the scientists say.

    The prolyliminopeptidase (PIP) enzyme was previously thought to be present in all strains of gonorrhoea and was therefore used in many diagnostic tests. However, mutations or deletions in the PIP gene that prevent the production of this enzyme had been identified in some strains. Gonorrhoea is known for its ability to mutate throughout its entire growth phase.

    Magnus Unemo, a microbiologist at Orebro University Hospital, Sweden and colleagues examined a total of 41 samples lacking the PIP enzyme from patients in Australia, New Zealand and Scotland. The samples were obtained between 2001 and 2004.

    To see how widespread this stealth strain is across the globe, they then compared these with samples from other studies in England and Denmark.
    Widespread dissemination

    All the samples from New Zealand and Scotland, and 83% of Australian samples, were indistinguishable or very similar to the English and Danish samples and had evolved from a single original strain. The data show "widespread dissemination" of the strain, the researchers say.

    The strain was previously known to be circulating among homosexual men, but the new work suggests it has become a growing concern within the heterosexual population as well.

    The strain did not appear resistant to the antibiotics typically used to treat gonorrhoea and all patients were given treatment.

    Untreated gonorrhoea infections can cause severe and permanent health problems and can even be fatal. It can also cause infertility by harming the testicles or fallopian tubes. These risks mean it is "crucial that a rapid, highly sensitive and specific confirmation of N. gonorrhoeae is provided," the authors say.

    FIRST ON NBC AUGUSTA: Driver Crashes Through Augusta Mall And His Journey Doesn't Stop There

    By Michael Buczyner, michaelb@wagt.com
    View low-speed video View hi-speed video
    Shocking video you saw first on NBC Augusta. A man drives his SUV through the Augusta Mall like he was driving on the street!

    That driver is in jail tonight charged with several serious crimes, including DUI.

    "He drove through locked glass doors. Continued through the mall and made a left turn and proceeded toward where the new food court is. When he gets to the new food court, the vehicle turns right. The vehicle then drives through those glass doors and exits the mall," Lt. Tony Walden of the Richmond County Sheriff's Office said.

    Stephen Lowe is the man who investigators say was behind the wheel of the SUV.

    A day after the joy ride and destruction, plywood hangs where doors once stood.

    "He never stopped. He drove in through the side and came out the other side. He never stopped," Lt. Walden said.

    And after he exited the mall, security cornered him waiting for Richmond County deputies to arrive. "When the deputy did try to take him into custody, he did resist arrest," Lt. Walden said.

    The surveillance tape shows a deputy patting the man down. He appears agitated, then out of nowhere, he attacks the deputy. Deputies then used pepper spray and a baton to subdue the man.

    "I've been in this business a long time. I've seen cars drive through businesses before, but it's usually to commit a burglary. This was just something I can't explain why he did it," Lt. Walden said.

    I THINK SHE HAS A BITCH

    Smoker sued for lighting up in her garden

    AKARP, Sweden, March 9 (UPI) -- A Swedish woman has been sued for smoking in her own garden.

    Her neighbor in Akarp in southern Sweden, a lawyer, demands 15,000 kroner ($2,000) in damages for her previous smoking plus another 2,000 kroner ($280) every time she lights up in the future, The Local reported. She has received a district court summons to respond to his complaint.

    "It makes me sad and angry," the 49-year-old single mom told Aftonbladet. "Should somebody else be able to control my life?"

    The woman said she has already made concessions to her neighbor's dislike of cigarette smoke, including picking a spot to light up that is more than 20 feet from his property.

    In court filings, the lawyer complains that he is hit with cigarette smoke every time he enters or leaves his house and has been unable to open his windows.

    My bitch for the day, Smacktards who don't pay attention to where they are going while driving and try to destroy the Blivetmobile by rearending me! Ironically within eyesight of the Verbatim sign on WT Harris Blvd.
    [IMG]
    only left minor scratches on my bumper, wrinkled his front end, I was stopped for at least 30 seconds at a light before he decided to hit me. Tailgaters need to be shot, distracted drivers need to drive in a cow pasture.

    Unlimited Bandwidth Doesn’t Mean “Unlimited”

    I know there are a bunch of you out there that will be interested in this story. Apparently internet service providers, even though they claim there are no bandwidth limits on your account, will cut you off if you are a heavy user.

    "Comcast has a responsibility to provide these customers with a superior experience and to address any excessive usage issues that may impact that experience," Comcast spokeswoman Shawn Feddeman said in a statement. "The few customers who are notified of excessive use typically consume exponentially more bandwidth than the average user."
