Astrology for your exact date of birth
    May 26, 2006 4:00 AM PDT

Paul Sadowski has constructed a tool that allows you to get astrological information based on your exact birth date. Even if you don't believe in this stuff, it's still interesting for the statistics included on each page, such as the U.S. population, birth and divorce rates at the time you were born.

    @Ireland, I think The_Fiend should be made a Mod too. :p

Although their is probably no way to 'restrict' Mods to a specific area for site moderation I believe aD needs a Mod (or five ;)) that patrols the console boards only.

But then again, if they were only able to Mod the console section of things they might loose their mental capacities after a while and run away. ;) Maybe a few of 'em could just specialize in the console boards and help out with the other sections if no other Mods are around.

ireland, three things wrong with that :
    1) this forum would soon lose about ¼ of it's members, because i'd enforce the rules like i was a not so politically correct german
    2) I DON'T WANT TO BE A MOD
    3) i still have a day job to manage, too

It would be really funny. I can imagine it now..

My bitch.. Can't you just tell it's the school holidays..
Below beginner level getting first unsupervised access to the internet.
"help me.. What do I do with an iso file I downloaded/." "what do I do with a bin/cue"
5 minutes on the internet and they are asking stoopid questions.. no trace of searching for answers.

I think all computers should be supplied with a command line ftp application like wget and the lynx browser by default.. no pretty one click internet, these idiots don't deserve it.

Or why don't we have a "complete beginner" section for this basic operation stuff? A list of one liners for what to do with files with.xxx extension and a collection of good very basic (written for the under 5's and other intellectual amoebas) guides to generic things.. burning a cd, printing a picture, that kind of stuff. All in the hope that the newcomer will learn to read a bit, and ask specific questions if something really does stump them.
I think like cincyrob that some sort of "competency test" should be applied before new members can post in certain places.. Like a "what does <alt>+<F4> mean, and what, on a windows machine, does it do?" type of test.. basic skills. If they have read the OS documentation they will have sen a list of these type of things. I was taught to read the instructions first (I know.. it's not a man thing) so I assume that people will have done the same before asking silly questions. I'm obviously expecting way too much......

Ireland mentioned how more and more of the old timers have wandered away, and no longer help out.. I'm not really surprised. How many times can you answer the same base level question for a "too lazy or ignorant to look" poster without starting to get fed up or worse.. totally disillusioned at the state of the modern internet user. Bills' handed to on a plate, one click generation.

50% of online users are looking for food and cooking information online

JupiterResearch Finds Half of Online Users Turn to the Internet to Find Information About Food and Cooking

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--JupiterResearch, a leading authority on the impact of the Internet and emerging consumer technologies on business, has found the Internet to be an indispensable channel for food advertisers because 50 percent of online users are looking for food and cooking information online. Detailed in a new report, “Targeting Online Food Lovers -- Identifying Segments and Online Advertising Opportunities,” JupiterResearch reveals that food advertisers should fully leverage the online channel and explore emerging opportunities around video and mobile content.

“Online food lovers use food destination sites and manufacturer sites the most, rather than branded product sites and health and lifestyle related web sites,” said Monique Levy, Senior Analyst at JupiterResearch. “This suggests that sites like epicurious.com and foodnetwork.com provide important advertising opportunities and that manufacturers' web sites like kraftfoods.com are smart to invest in their main web site.”

Advertisers in niche categories including organic foods and gourmet foods must pay particular attention to the online advertising opportunity. Online food lovers that prefer to buy and eat gourmet foods, organic foods and 'good-for-you' foods are significantly more likely to use online food web sites than are online food lovers that say they primarily buy or choose their foods based on price.

“We noticed off-line media such as TV programming and new magazines growing with a focus on food and we researched to see how this translated online,” said David Schatsky, President of JupiterKagan. “We found a significant opportunity for food and lifestyle-related advertisers and publishers because so many people turn to the Internet to find out more about food.”

The complete findings of this report and recommendations for food and lifestyle-related advertisers and publishers are immediately available to JupiterResearch clients online at www.jupiterresearch.com. Watch this video and weep. I was scared at the amount of brutality.

    http://www.spikedhumor.com/articles/96919/Thieves_Get_Violent_Beating.html#

That's insanely horrible. Noone deserves a brutal beating for that. Even for murder or rape.

I can understand a decent kicking around or a few punches in the head but f***ing cinder blocks? That man was way out of line.

I pray to god for the safety of those two people.

Patti Santangelo v RIAA: battle won?

p2pnet.net news:- Odds are that Patti Santangelo, the New York mother who was the first RIAA victim to make a determined stand against the Big 4, helped to no small extent by p2pnet readers who put their money where their mouths were, contributing thousands of dollars towards her legal costs, has won her battle to clear her name and show up the Big 4 for the bullies that they are.

She and her lawyer, Jordan Glass, have signed and submitted a stipulation to dismiss with prejudice the case lodged against her by the RIAA, clearly taking their cue from the language of US federal district court judge Colleen McMahon's response to Glass's letter of March 31. In it, he wrote Patti would stipulate to a dismissal of any sort only if she retained the right to move for legal fees.

McMahon's language seemed to indicate it was time to end the farce, and the court had the power to entertain a motion for legal fees.

But even if judge McMahon grants the dismissal, and there's every reason to believe she will, that still leaves two of Patti's children, Michelle, 20, and Bobby, 16, in the direct line of fire.

"With prejudice" means the Big 4 wouldn't be able to re-start the case at some time in the future, and if judge McMahon decides to grants fees and costs, they could be heavy.

Both Patti and Glass wanted to take this to trial. She told p2pnet, "This is the most appropriate thing to do based upon what judge McMahon wrote. It shows what we were able to accomplish by fighting back," going on:

We didn't get everything we wanted – I know how much Jordan wanted to take this to trial, and so did I – but other people like me have been fighting back since we won the first discovery objections last year.

Now I have to focus on case against my children. I think this shows what we can accomplish, but it wouldn't have been possible without all the people who funded the campaign.

I don't know how other parents are managing it without money. That's why the RIAA is picking on people without money, because people with money can beat them. But now that the other defendants have my case to refer to, maybe that will help them save money and have more power to win. I know it made a big difference regarding discovery for other defendants, so I hope this will be a good precedent for them, too.

With Patti's case out of the way, will the Elektra Entertainment Group, Virgin Records America, UMG Recordings, BMG Music and Sony BMG Music Entertainment drop their case against her children?

If they do, they'll be setting a precedent other families in the same, or a similar, boat will be quick to use. So the RIAA will probably intensify, rather than abandon, its efforts against Bobby and Michelle.

The only thing likely to give the RIAA serious pause is if RIAA victims and their lawyers launch a concerted campaign through a class action suit, or other type of action where defendants are able to join together.

Individually, the victims have little weight. But if they were able to stand as a group against the Big 4, with their legions of lawyers and bottomless pockets, it could be another matter.

There might also be similar possibilities for a class action against the units used by the RIAA to extort money from its targets.

In 2005, Judge McMahon told the cartel's lawyers that she'd, "love to see a mom fighting one of these," referring to the settlement centres routinely employed by the RIAA to get money out of its victims. (http://p2pnet.net/story/6169)

However, class actions are expensive costing in the region of a quarter of a million dollars to start, so the RIAA, EMI (Britain), Vivendi Universal (France), Sony BMG (Japan and Germany) and Warner Music (US) may be in effect wagering this alone will be sufficient to stop a class action from being attempted.

    Stay tuned.

    Slashdot Slashdot it!
