@ddp...I spent a month in Lyons and Niece and had no trouble whatsoever nor did they have difficulty understanding me (they would now though) although their French isn't Parisian either...there are many severe dialects withing France itself; I can understand what you mean though. Many seniors in Quebec can only speak in the dialect which is indeed severe but it isn't so much the case anymore and people are far better educated. While the dialect is still spoken everywhere in quebec (and always will be, I'm sure), most are perfectly capable of speaking and understanding proper French (though its an older French). In the fifties and sixties, there was a pervasive(and contentious)battle about the dialect in schools very similar to the fight going on here in the US regarding "ebonics" in schools; depending on where one lives, ebonics can be so severe that its difficult to understand. While I was very young and don't remember the details, I do recall that it had something to do with the efforts of Charles de Gaul. At any rate, while you still here the dialect everywhere, most are perfectly capable of speaking and understanding proper french. In fact, there is now a lot of interaction in the French film industry. It isn't unusual to see someone from quebec in a french film ... its rather neat because the accents are different; its rather like seeing and hearing someone from Boston speaking with someone from the deep american south...you can understand them both but the accents are worlds apart.

Been to the South of France twice on GSXR-750s, (from northern England - 1100miles) I love it. I speak enough to get by. I love the French, I love their attitude to life & the EU!

LOL Seems like the South of a lot of places is laid back. I like tooling around my neck of the woods on my Aero 750. I could get on this end of Route 66 and ride that one highway for over a week and never leave the country. 2400 miles long, that would take some hard riding to cover in a week. It's one of the most historic and scenic rides to be found. Wrong side of the pond to be easily accessible from the UK. Those that can afford it fly in and rent a cycle and others go by car. I've always wanted to ride a big Harley or Indian from IL to CA and back again. Haven't been able to afford the Harley or the Indian yet. LOL

That's my bitch for the day, a person should have a free Harley while they're young enough to enjoy it. Nowadays they seem to be reserved for yuppies and oldsters with money. Not that I have anything against them, hope they enjoy the ride.
