My big bitch of the day. why is it that in this modern world we live in I had to spend nearly 5 hours in a hospital A+E waiting for an X-ray after after my 9 year old had swallowed a £1 coin (see pic). only to be told to let nature take its course. Blair promises that every one will be delt with within 4 hours but theres nothing you can do if this isn't so. God help future generations who become ill in this country of ours.

By the way been checking the toilet daily still no change :)

I swallowed coins all the time when I was little. No problems except with the 50 cent piece (jk) But I did do it. I have a friend who paid me five bucks last year to swallow a quarter. No problems whatsoever.

Poorkid. All freaked out over the hospital and such :(

It'll be a little over 3 days at the VERY LONGEST! Any over that you need to get it checked out or there could be some complications with bowel movements.

It might also pass through without you noticing it. If you get another X-Ray you could find that it is gone.

Now that's what I call frugal! j/k consul ... I hope your kid will be fine. Sounds like the docs know what they're doing. You can't call them and ask how long it should take or how much time before you should be concerned?

Hell, your kid must have one strong gullett to swallow something like that in the first place!

When I was a medic in the service, one thing I saw a lot of in the emergency room was baby girls with pierced ears. I still shudder whenever I see one. They'd swallow them, stick them in their ears...up their nose...and it would often cause damage because they're sharp. Every time I see a baby with pierced ears, I have to resist the temptation to drag mom aside and chew her ear about its dangers. Kids do (and eat) the damndest things.

DO YE THINK THIS GUY HAS A BITCH,OR WAS IT ONE OF YE THE PIXS WAS TAKEN OF

Man Sues Over Sperm Bank Hidden Camera
Claim: Surveillance device was hidden in ceiling of "donation room"

JULY 20--Claiming that he found a video camera hidden in the ceiling of a sperm bank's "donation room," a Los Angeles man is suing the firm for negligence and emotional distress. Ken Rigberg, 27, charges that he discovered the pinhole camera during a June 2005 visit to Pasadena's Pacific Reproductive Services. According to Rigberg's Los Angeles Superior Court complaint, a copy of which you'll find below, he "noticed an unusual hole in the ceiling tile" of a private donation room, where he had just finished masturbating into a cup. Upon inspection, Rigberg realized that "there was a hidden surveillance camera on top of the ceiling tile, with the lens of the camera positioned to...capture the activity within the private donor room." Rigberg is described in the lawsuit as a "regular sperm donor" who went to Pacific "to provide an honorable and essential benefit to his community." According to Pacific's web site, it pays men $100 per donation, and that most donors contribute "once or twice weekly over a minimum one-year period or 65 donations." Rigberg's attorney, S. Edmond El Dabe, provided TSG with a police photograph of the seized ceiling cam equipment, an image he received from Pacific's insurance carrier. El Dabe said Pasadena cops have been unable to determine who placed the video camera in the donation room ceiling. The lawsuit, which was filed in late-May and does not specify monetary damages, asserts that Rigberg has, among other things, suffered fear, shame, humiliation, and chagrin as a result of discovering the surveillance gadget. An "emotionally traumatized" Rigberg, who had been visiting Pacific for more than a year, "no longer donates sperm, as he fears future illegal surveillance of his private acts," the complaint notes. You're lucky it went down the right pipe instead of the trachea and lodged somewhere in the bronchi. It would then have to be removed. An enema might dilute the problem and help coinage flow.

    RIAA: Undesirable Element

p2pnet.net News:- “You have a multi-billion dollar cartel sueing unemployed people, disabled people, housewives, single mothers, home healthcare aids, all kinds of people who have no resources whatsoever to withstand these litigations,” said Recording Industry vs The People's Ray Beckerman.

RIAA is, of course, short for Recording Industry Association of America, owned by EMI (Britain), Vivendi Universal (France), Sony BMG (Japan and Germany) and, finally, Warmer Music, which is, significantly, the only American company.

“And,” Beckerman went on in a DefectiveByDesign conference call, yesterday, “due to the adversary system of justice the RIAA will be successful in rewriting copyright law if the world at large and the technological community in particular don't fight back.”

This prompted a comment post which said:

It is interesting when a lawyer uses the word "cartel" - that can only mean that they are considering using the RICO Act at some point...and I think it is appropriate.

The tort "Trespass To Chattels" is another legal concept to look into, since the people offering files for download have no reason to suspect that the end-user will be doing anything illegal. After all, the United States Copyright Act allows a de minimus use of copyrighted works for purposes of parody, review and other non-infringing activities.

Thus, the act of downloading is, in itself, not illegal, regardless of the content of such downloads. So the person offering files for download should have a legal basis on the stand that no person is allowed who will be using the list of files, or the files themselves, for any reason other than those afforded by the Copyright Act specifically.

And, since the RIAA and its minions are not desirable elements, it stands to reason that they are not to be allowed access to the person's computer for any reason, thus the Trespass to Chattels tort.

Perhaps a "shrinkwrap EULA" should be prepended to the file list because the courts have historically upheld such agreements when used in software installations, and this is little different, to wit: "by accessing this list of files or by downloading even one file from this computer I hereby state that I will only be using it for purposes of parody, sampling, or review and that I am not working for the RIAA or MPAA in any fashion and I have no affiliation with them in any manner currently nor in the past...", etc.

Lawyer who fights the RIAA speaks out

7/21/2006 11:46:27 AM, by Nate Anderson

The RIAA continues to fire flaming subpoenas against suspected file-swappers across the country, many of whom lack the resources with which to defend themselves. Those without cash find themselves hard-pressed to even begin defending against a federal lawsuit of the kind that the RIAA usually files, and few legal firms are willing to help.

Ray Beckerman is one of the few lawyers who has taken a stand against the RIAA, and he recently took part in a conference call organized by Defective by Design, an anti-DRM coalition. Beckerman gave a broad overview of the RIAA's tactics; not surprisingly, he was opposed to them on the grounds that the group's investigations turn out very little actual evidence.

"They say the defendant downloaded, distributed and/or made available for distribution certain song files. But they have no evidence of any downloading, they have no evidence of any distributing, and at most they can say that someone who might somehow be associated with the IP address might have made some files available. But they certainly don't know what the defendant did. All they know that the defendant did was to write out a check for internet access."

Despite these key weaknesses, the RIAA uses its resources to file suit against individuals and then presses them to settle out of court for cash—usually $3750 or $4250.

Even when people find lawyers willing to help them fight such cases, Beckerman claims that many judges simply don't get it. Most judges are "anything but digital natives," and they don't understand the technology or the arguments that the RIAA is making. Few judges are truly up to speed on "hash table," "metadata," and "supernodes," which puts them at a disadvantage when they rule on these sorts of cases.

Beckerman's firm prefers to intervene before a case reaches this stage, since actually having to argue federal cases can be quite expensive. As he puts it, "If you get into the merits of the case to prove that you're innocent, you've already lost because under any scenario you're talking tens of thousands of dollars at least in legal expenses in order to defend such a case."

In many cases, though, this can't be avoided, because Beckerman's firm does not hear about the case early enough to challenge RIAA subpoenas. Most frustrating of all are the lawsuits where the accused could not possibly be guilty. Though such people usually end up having their case is dismissed, the entire process takes time and money, and is indicative of the (in)accuracy of using IP addresses to target individuals. Beckerman describes the case of UMG vs. Lindor "where the defendant Lindor is a home health aid who's never used a computer. She's never used a computer, she's never owned a computer, she's never even turned on a computer. The only connection she has had to a computer is that she has on occasion dusted near the parts which she believes are a computer."

Though the lawsuits have continued unabated for several years, people have increasingly decided to fight back, and some have won their cases. Beckerman hopes that such outcomes will soon be the norm, and that the RIAA will eventually stop suing "unemployed people, disabled people, housewives, single mothers, home healthcare aids, all kinds of people who have no resources whatsoever to withstand these litigations." Presumably, he'd be happy to see the group stop suing dead people as well. Beckerman laments the lack of support (financial and otherwise) his group has received, and he wishes that more legal teams were involved in fighting these kinds of suits.

    @ ireland

I wasn't putting down your post, I was just already engaged in the topic at hand and you brought that to a screeching halt. I have a slight superiority complex as I don't react well to having the topic of a conversation abruptly changed. Sometimes I say something wrong because I am in a different mindset.

I don't really notice though when we are gently swerved away from the topic at hand by our own doing:p

My sincerest apologies for any annoyances :)

Carry on with your topic change. As it is indeed your thread.

Just let it be man. As Ireland put it, it's his thread and a lots of people read HIS thread daily. As for your "slight superiority complex" there's a ton of people here way smarter, in life's lesson, than you, young man; so chill out and go with the flow or go.

I know many people are much more intelligent than me and that isn't what I mean. It's a problem with interruption that kinda tweaks me and I usually try my best to control it. I need to just let it go because it was so miniscule a deal to me. I just needed to say something and I'm sorry if such a tiny comment affected you.

I've apologized for questioning ireland and I've let it go a while ago. It was so tiny that I didn't even figure he'd reply. He good naturedly responded and I good naturedly explained my objection and apologized. I didn't flame anyone and I hope I didn't offend anyone.

So everybody don't even talk about it or answer me or this'll go on for three more pages :p
