I can only see 2 things

These are poor quality discs, try Verbatim or Sony (made in japan)
    Your burner doesnt like them.

    Slow burn to 4X

    Program Memory Area Update Failure

Are you doing anything with your PC while you are burning? Like listening to music, surfing the web , and so on ? Do you have a lot of applications running in the background ?
Nero is telling you your PC is not feeding the data for the burn . Defragmenting your drive, closing other applications ,using good media and going for a coffee while the burn is in progress may solve your problem !

    thanks for taking the time.

i have some verbatims, they're DVD-Rs and my drive won't recognize them.

i have tried slower burns with no luck.

    hi gwendolin -

thanks again for taking the time to reply.

i have a fast computer, lots of space on the drive nero is using, defragmented HD, i do have stuff in the background but nothing major. just a browser, etc.

i've just been able to do 2 successful burns @ 4X. i guess i may have to settle for that...? what factor do you think would contribute mostly to this limitation? i mean my burners are rated at 16X as well as all media i have tried...

    thanks, stef
