Hello all, I've been working on this computer the last few days. The problem is that the network connection isn't working, it gives the message: limited or no connectivity and the connection isn't working. I've done quite some testing, I'll list it and the results below: Changing network cable - didn't work Testing network cables on another computer - works Testing router with other computer - works (dhcp as well) Setting IP address manually - removes the error message but still no connectivity to the router nor the internet Repair connection - instant error that it can't get an IP address Ubuntu linux live cd - the connection to the router and to the internet works Turned off firewall software - still not working Updating driver - wouldn't let me since the version was no better or something Reinstall card - finds the card and connects a driver straight away Conclusions from testing done (tell me if I'm wrong please): The network card, the cables, the router and the internet connection are all fine. The issue is software based, either driver, configuration or windowswise. System specs: Windows XP SP2 Dell Dimension 5000 Network card chipset: Broadcom 440x Router: Some netgear wireless thing, rather irrelevant by the looks of it. Questions: Obviously some help on how to solve this. I'm also wondering what windows services are involved in this so I can check that everything that should be running is running. Thanks in advance.
The only thing that i can think of and may not seem as a important question or you may have tried it already but is the hardware that you go compatible with your linux operating system your running??
Not sure if I was clear enough in my post, I'm trying to get the card to work (again) in Windows so I did a test in Linux and it worked in Linux .
moved to correct forum. have you tried a system restore? disable the onboard netcard & try a pci netcard to see if still have problem or not.
I have a Dell B110 I use for files and online stuff, it's not a scream machine. I wanted to up grade it as much as I could. The400mhz memory ony runs at 266, so the gig I bought was a waste. The video card I shipped back because the Dell just wont see it. That could be your problem. The guy from India that I spoke with said to buy the vid. card from Dell ( even though it's the correct card I did have). I can only say this Dude we got a Dell, and it's my last one!
