I can't seem to find many DVD's in 6.1 or even 7.1. Gladiator is all I've found.

    Let's see now,
Left, Right, Centre, LSurround, RSurround, LF.
What other audio channels are there?
WTF is this '7.1', what are the channels pray tell?
Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't THX audio (Tomlinson Holman's eXperiment) 5.1 audio certified by Lucasfilm in California as to its dynamic range, tonal balance and overall quality?
What would you do with eight channels derryl, assuming you could locate them...?
    Just wondering,
    Regards

6.1 adds a single rear surround speaker channel, 7.1 adds left and right rear surround speaker channels.

    Yes very good info,
thank you to Oriphus, Prisoner (and hometheatrehifi).
These formats are, I won't say obscure but they are not mainstream. I know, not mainstream is good ;-) !!
But, these formats do seem to be the answer to a question no one has asked...
Perhaps people should pay more attention to the quality of their 5.1 setups, and not worry so much about discrete L&R surround plus discrete L&R rear.
These 4 surround channels are 3 more than I have (and at least 2 more than most could really justify) but there you go, just my two cents :)
Yeesh, and I thought [bold]I [/bold]was a home-theatre buff! But there's so much more important stuff (motorcycles, vid cards, green fees) to claim your cashflow.
Ya gotta come out of yer theatre now & then, see if it's rainy or sunny...
    Regards
