    Yep, updated to Nero 7.0.8.2 completed. Everything is smooth and burning flawlessly as before. No buggy from me, at least not at this moment. So far, Nero Recode 2, Nero Express, Nero Burning Rom, Nero Vision, Nero ShowTime, Nero Toolkit/Nero CD-DVD Speed, Nero BackItUp, etc. is working as of now.

    7.0.5.4 and 7.0.5.5 would not let me rename my DVD in Recode. 7.0.8.2 seems to have cleared this up for me. So far, no bugs that I've found in 7.0.8.2.

    @alkohol

    I remember reading in some post (I forget the context) that some guy had unexplainable problems with nero in some respect and he posted his error log. Some experienced user like you read it and noticed the serial number was "flagged" by nero as illegal and this may somehow cause nero to cripple itself. Although I purchased my copy, i'm starting to wonder the problems i'm experiencing (and others are experiencing) are somehow tied to this. None of the updates since 7.0.1.4b has worked properly for me, yet so many others have no problems. What do you (or other smarties) think?

    What a good forum this is.

    Thanks for the feedback everyone.

    tetrakis, you said that you tried to make a nerovision project with an animated menu with animated buttons (something that notoriously causes problems) using this new version (7.0.8.2, vision 4.1.0.15) and your CPU maxed.

    I'm happy to report that using 7.0.8.2, vision 4.1.0.15 I was able to take an existing project and burn a DVD with an animated menu and the DVD was OK. I note that the PREVIEW (in Vision) of the animated menu does NOT work. i.e. you cannot select the buttons - however I seem to remember that this was a problem with the preview in 7.0.4b as well. However the resultant dvd burned with 7.0.8.2 has working animated menus.

    >anybody else have problems with this version being ridiculously gluttonous?

    The only problems I have so far noticed is that with Nero 7.0.8.2, NeroROM "estimated time remaining" when burning my DVD-RW TSK 4x DVD seemed to start ok but later then showed 0 minues 0 seconds when it was only 50% complete. Oddly, later in the burn (at about 75%) the estimated time remaining worked again OK.

    I have a P4 3.2Ghz. tetrakis perhaps your Antivirus software is causing your cpu to max out when working in conjunction with nero vision? I tend to kill off other process like All-in-one secretmaker, AVG FREE etc....

    @ukuser1

    I guess i can shut off my antivirus software when I do a nerovision project and see, but i never had this problem with any previous versions of nero (well, 7.0.5.4 didn't even have the "make dvd" option...so i can't comment on that one). Frustrating!.....i just want a stable version that can handle my avi to dvd conversions with all the bells and whistles (like animated buttons, etc.)!!!

    whoa, whoa, alkohol....you completely read my post backwards. I'm no where NEAR accusing you of doing anything at all (I haven't ever even posted my error log). I was simply throwing a possible reason for my problems and asking you (as an obvious experienced user) for your opinion on that reason...that's it. I must have worded my post in an accusatory manor, not my intension in the least. I only asked you directly in the post because from reading your other posts you clearly know more about Nero than I. So...if you would, please re-read my question and opine, i would appreciate it. I apologize if I sounded like an ass.

    FYI, my two cents worth, My Nero number is legit, I've never posted a Nero log nor a Nero serial number, yet my NERO 7.0 purchased from Best Buy still has the problems after I upgraded to 7.0.5.4, so I don't think that the Nero program sporadically malfunctions due to a flagged serial number, unless someone has a keygen which has spit out my identical serial number???? I have reinstalled 7.0.1.4b and have run into not a single problem, yet others have reported bugs with this version as well. I will watch this board for a couple of days and see if anyone else reports bugs in this release...@Alkohol, I don't think he was accusing you of hacking his serial number, just wondering if a hacked number would account for his problems.@Tetrakis, I agree with Alkohol, contact Nero and see if you do indeed have a "flagged" serial number and report back what they relay. I'm sure that e-mailing your store reciept along with a scan of your serial number would help...Just my 2 cents worth.

    So far my experience with Nero 7.0.8.2 has been uneventful...no problems, no glitches, nothing..period. I do know that most people that are trying to use keygens and other borrowed versions of the software seem to be running into some strange issues; and are now in the process of discovering what registry changes need to be made to get their borrowed copies upgraded to 7.08.2 (Yes, with 7.0.8.2 updated, a bunch of things don't work if you haven't manually updated the registry - the product key activation algorithm has been changed and a pirated version of Nero 7 is currently pretty much useless.)

    So if you are using a non-legit copy ... don't upgrade. But then again, this advice wouldn't apply to anyone posting in here.

    Tetrakis, I'm running a P4 3.0 with 1.5GB RAM and seeing the same exact problems you described. I've tried assembling DVD's and DVD-9's and the problem is fully intermittent; some DVD's are easily assembled and some leave my computer hanging -- and my CPU has plenty of juice with Nero just hanging. My problems are almost exclusively when I try to cut up an AVI with chapters -- but they are excruciating and, 99% of the time, fatal. I assumed it had something to do with codecs installed or not installed on my system but since other people appear to be having the same problem(s) I'm going to wait until the next version of Nero is released.

    I'm using 7054 and 41013 of Nero and Vision, respectively. If 7055 or 7082 fixes the problem, I'll give either a shot. I just tried deactivating my AV software (Norton) and it didn't help at all btw.

    I'm good and happy with the latest 7.0.8.2. Again, so far nothing, no bugs, everything is working as flawless as always for me. I've had great success with Nero, except version 7.0.5.4 that has some bugs. Besides that I've always been happy (satified) with Nero.

    Anyways, below is my 2nd successful burned with Nero Burning Rom.

    @BoogieNY & tetrakis

    Things to look out for before proceeding with any of your AVI project.

    > shutdown, disable all other unnecessary running programs
    > disconnect from the internet
    > shutdown/turn off all other Anti-Virus
    > run a "disk scan or scan disk clean up"
    > defrag your hard drive
    > release more memory by "end processes" via "ctrl+alt+del" for any unuse programs/applications

    Now restart your computer and do your project as usual with Nero Vision. Make sure all your DMAs are On or DMA Available, make sure you set your PRIORITY to "normal".

    Good luck to all!!

    I will try shutting down all of the above suggested processes (albeit annoying if that's what I have to do every time I want to do a project) and report back if it fixes my issues.

    As for contacting Nero directly...i tried that once and after waiting forever and a day for a reply all i got was some b.s. about how they couldn't reproduce my errors and had basically no idea what i was talking about.

    As for the whole flagging of serials thing...All i've seen from these and other posts in other forums is controversy over whether or not Nero has built in self-crippling algorithms in their software. I guess it's not logical to think that's causing all of the problems of people like me, but it is strange that we can't seem to find bug-free updates...oh well...thanks for everyone's help. Again, sorry if my newbieness pissed anybody off.

    Alkohol, et al:

    I tried all of your suggestions even before you posted them.

    I rebooted, deactivated all A/V 'ware, made sure I had plenty of scratch room (I've got four hard drives), and ended all non-essential processes.

    Same problem recurred each time. I uninstalled my copy of Nero and installed 7082, and that install went fine. Weirdly enough, I tried burning an avi file of a gig or so -- one that had been giving me trouble (freezing my PC, locking up, winding up in fatal create chapter screens, etc.) and sure enough, it worked fine. I didn't go any further than the chapter create screen and then rebooted.

    And sure enough, the problem recurred when the machine came back up.

    I'm not sure if it's a codec issue or what, but AVI files are the problem. I've got avi's of 150MB and 1.5GB, and it seems that everything is giving Nero problems. Thanks for the suggestions, but I think it's a bug, not anything wrong with my specific PC, especially since Tetrakis is having seemingly the exact same issues with similarly-equipped hardware.

    @BoogieNY

    Well, have you tried "K-Lite Mega Codec Pack"? Here http://www.free-codecs.com/download/K_Lite_Mega_Codec_Pack.htm -- if you haven't done so. It's free, it has tons of AVI, DivX, XviD and all other audio and videio codecs. So it's wise to install, configure all "audio & video" codecs, just uncheck what you don't need. Try to test/check your AVI files through G-Spot or AVI Fixed.

    Good luck!!

    I downloaded the K-Lite mega pack as well as the Ace codec pack; I tried installing the Ace codecs and my system wound up crashing each time I right-clicked a video file, so I'm leery about installing a bunch of out-of-control codecs. One thing I've noticed: in the Disc Info portion of Nero, if you look at the Drivers tab and then look at Codecs, that's a good way to see which codecs you've got installed and which ones you don't, and the only one(s) I didn't have were the Indeo codecs. So I might try installing them, although from what I've read they're too old to be of any concern, so it's just a new AVI codec from Nero being perfect. I haven't tried checking any files, but the fact is that I've had consistent problems with each AVI file I've tried editing/chapterizing and each file is from different sources and vastly different sizes, so the consistency tells me it's either the codec (which was my original suspicion) or it's Nero.

    I'll know/post more tonight.

    this is a definate bug in the software itself. i did a full format and reinstalled window and updated it, then installed nero (nothing else was installed) and the same thing happened.
