I have a laptop I just got for surfing the web, and school. I'm looking for a Linux OS with very little system requirements to run on it. I was thinking of knoppix but since the cd version is run off of the cd (no HD required) installing software such as open office is a problem. The laptop will have about a P3 processor and about 256 MB of ram.

Get damn small linux (dsl) which is knoppix but like 50mb and has loads of apps built in. Add open office to the ISO and run it from a cd or flashdrive, thats what ive done.

I have a copy of DSL but its a bootable OS. I'm looking for a hard drive install OS.

You can also install DSL, look on the DSL site for instructions.
