Okay, I just downloaded one of the save files for Jump Ultimate Stars from Gamefaqs. I converted it at http://www.shunyweb.info/index.php and added it to my NDS folder on my M3 DS Real, but when I load up a game it still says there's no savefile and creates it's own. Help please? Thank you!

jinzomanz: try renaming the file everything but the extension must be the same as the .nds file for example mario kart.nds must have the save file mario kart.0( I just rename mine and change the extension to convert them I did it with my old ac:ww save and it worked from .sav to .0)
rumple: I don't think its hardware sorry cant be of more help maybe someone else can see the problem. the store is reputable and Im sure you could get a replacement if your M3R is genuinely faulty.

Here is the European/USA version of the v3.0 system files.

Here is the Japanese version of the v3.0 system files.

And here is the Asian version of the v3.0 system files.

Also I have edited the European Menu.eng to use the nicer looking font and
uploaded it here http://tinyload.com/ZhJaU for any that want it.

This edited Menu.eng is only for v3.0.

    Hi there.

I've just purchased an M3 Real card and everything seemed to work fine (even played some games) until I readjusted my DS's date and time. Now it seems my DS doesn't recognize the M3 card on startup. I've tried the same card in my brother's DS and it works fine.

Have I messed things up by changing date and time? Is there a way to make things work again?

Thanks in advance. And great tutorial BTW.

I've never heard of internal date and time being an issue, I think it is just a coincidence and that you should "blow" into the DS to remove dust. Many people have had this problem but none(to my knowledge) have been due to the internal clock. The m3r does read from the internal clock to display time and date on the home screen.

Thankyou catflap for noting the uppdate(I never check the site)
struggling to DL your font though, none of the links to the hosts seem to work...anyone else got this problem?

    Hi,

I'm sorry if this has already been addressed earlier but I just received my M3real today and I was able to load and play games initially but now it keeps freezing at the loading screen at startup. I have tried re-formatting my 1GB microSD and reloading the system software but it still keeps getting stuck at the loading screen. Any suggestions?
    thanks.

I was finally able to get it working again. Just re-formatted the disc in FAT32 again and this time it worked. One other question completely diferent but how does one get the movie (.dpg) files to play. I've loaded them into a separate movies folder but when I select them nothing happens. What have people done to get them to play. Thanks again.

The media built -in does not support .dpg it uses .dsm and I have not found a way to get a .dsm converter that works.
To play .dpg(I reccomend .dpg because its going to be a while before you get .dsm to work imo) download moonshell and after getting it (it'll be an .nds folder put it (it also comes with a system folder) on the root of your card and M3R will patch it (so dont bother dldi patching anything(I didn't)) then go into MyCard and load it from there(just highlight and press A) itll then open and you can play movies .dpg format AND what I love is that pictures zoom to about 600% however what lets it down is all progress bars(like buffer on youtube sorta thing) etc. all look a bit odd by which I mean funny characters I think japanese and you cant skip very well because you cant touch where you want on the bar like with music in the built-in media player.
If you want I can e-mail you the app if im still on later.
but its easier to get it here http://www.handheldsources.com/M3DS/Download_M3DSR.html
It should be easy to figure out but just remeber there will be a folder called MOONSHL which needs to be on the root aswell(I think after I patched the rom by using it once I then moved it into a My apllications folder and it works but I haven't moved the MOONSHL folder to the same folder as the .nds file and it works) and a .nds folder which after being used once in the root so it'll be patched you can move it anywhere. It also has a converter go into the DPGtools\moonshell171p1_with_dpgtools131\dpgtools131 and click the dpgenc.exe and click and drag the file you want converting onto it.
Just checked thats 'a' right site but I got mine from here http://mdxonline.dyndns.org/archives/2007/03/moonshell_ver171_dl.shtml and that comes with a converter ( click moonshell171p1_with_dpgtools131.zip)
Im testing both atm and Ill edit when i figure it out but you need to download the latter for the converter anyway.

The MOONSHELL for M3ds on the first link is the same as the one from the japanese site(Infantileparalysiser) and im not sure about the setup version in the first link but it seems to be the same as the one on infantile paralysiser.

To sum up download the 'MoonShell 171 for M3DS (just copy it into M3DS)' from http://www.handheldsources.com/M3DS/Download_M3DSR.html move the MOONSHL folder onto the microsd and the Moonshell_g6ds.nds onto the microsd.
download either 'MoonShell 171 original setup version' from http://www.handheldsources.com/M3DS/Download_M3DSR.html OR 'moonshell171p1_with_dpgtools131.zip' from http://mdxonline.dyndns.org/archives/2007/03/moonshell_ver171_dl.shtml(however this is a bit japanese and I had to figure out the drag and drop bit myself :p) and use the converter to convert videos(DPGENC.EXE) by dragging the file (eg.video.dpg) onto the window of the converter then leave it and itll convert the file and put it onto the desktop. DPGENC.EXE is located here C:\Users\Administrator\Desktop\moonshell171_with_dpgtools13_setup_version\moonshell171_with_dpgtools13_setup_version\moonshell171_with_dpgtools13\dpgtools13 it may not be the same for you but it is from desktop onwards ;) oh and I also found out that to make the converter english theres a language tab at the top so just click that qand then english.
    hope I helped.

Thanks a lot. That is exactly what I was looking for. I thought all was included with the SYSTEM folder I put on the card originally. Thanks again for your help. Hopefully it will work this time, I'll let you know.

Is anyone else able to make skins? I just updated to V3.0 of SYSTEM for my new M3 DS Real...I had this problem when I got it on v2.9, and v3.0 did not help.

I made a top_desktop (8bit, 256 x 192, bmp) and plugged it in as top_desktop to one other the other existing skins on the card. I then boot up the DS, choose that skin, and the top_desktop that I made appears fine on the top, but the bottom screen is full of wavy lines and is unviewable/unuseable..

Am I doing something wrong? does this method for customizing skins work for someone?

    Thanks in Advance!

Well I'm not sure what I am doing wrong but I have tried several things and I still can't get my dpg movie file to play.
First I tried to copy the MOONSHL and .nds file to the root of my card and no luck. Then I re-formatted and flashed it to my card using the tools file, the one where you go through the setup and it loads the moonshl folder and .nds file onto your H, and still no luck with that option either. I did not understand the converter you mentioned but since the file is alread .dpg then does it still need to be converted prior to watching on the DS lite?

What am I doing wrong? thanks.

I finally did figure this out. You need to run the .nds file in order to play movies. One follow up though is how do you exit the moonshell player and go back to the M3DS main menu. I just turned off the unit while playing a movie and the next time I tried to turn it back on the system would lock at the Loading... screen. This M3DS seems to be a very sensitive unit, I've seen this screen several times and each time I need to go back and relaod everything on the card. Is it my card that is the problem or is this typical for the M3DS? thanks again.

unacquain: Thanks for the suggestion. I'll give it a try but honestly I don't think that is my problem. The unit itself is not that old (few weeks maybe) and it doesn't explain why it would doing this only after I play and exit a game. Is it the way I exit the game (simply quit and then power off the unit) that might be the issue, its just very strange that it always happens after game play.

bigdarern: I have also had this problem what I did though was take a pre-made skin and open it in some kind of editor then open the DESKTOP file and copy and paste/drag and drop onto the pre-made DESKTOP then save ( Important to not use save as...) or ctrl+s. This will replace the DESKTOP file so back it up just in case then place DESKTOP that you just edited(the one that was pre-made and had yours whacked on top) into a system folder this has been a success for me apart from my 8bit was too detailed and became a bit pixelated afterward so I suggest keeping it simple to anyone who skins although you obviously got this to work so as I have seen some pretty detailed TOP_DESKTOP files I ask is there a way to prevent this loss of graphic quality?.

rnarco: I'm glad you figured out the moonshell I'm sorry I was unclear about it having to be run but it is a homebrew that is old and is classed by some as the most usefull homebrew for the ds but you were right there is no reboot option you must do it manually.
I have had the same problem when turning it on getting stuck at loading not every time I turn on and not because of the moonshell but if I get the freeze at loading I remove the M3R and blow into the DS this then gets it working for a long time and I rarely get a freeze afterwards. The DPG encoder is not required for .dpg files but I assumed you were using a different file type...sorry for once again assuming but I find it difficult to find .dpg files so I download from youtube using keepvid.com and then convert them using the dpgenc.

Might I suggest you also try DSOrganise?
DSOrganise is a homebrew file that needs to be run like moonshell but acts like a PDA instead (the M3R PDA files that M3 supply is very off with the touch screen so I dont reccomend it yet)it has many usefull functions and an internet browser(amongst other internet uses) that beats the official nintendo browser by far
    http://www.dragonminded.com/?loc=ndsdev/DSOrganize
there is also 'pocketphysics' (a small minigame) and 'beup' (MSN messenger client requires the internet to work)
All homebrew that uses internet out of what I have tried requires a router NOT nintendo official usb because the USB from nintendo only connects to game servers.
try my blowing trick because I have never had to reformat.

Hate to nag but edit post next time.

deighton: A lot of download play games dont work M3Real has a better compatability with download play overall and is making general fixes but there are bound to be a few games that work better with simply than with real. you have four options
    1. Silly one but its an option program your own SYSTEM folder and/or .NDS rom.
    2. Give up on this particular game and try a few other games with download play.
    3. Use your freinds M3simply(why are you using Download play if he has a simply? is this for download play with other friends who dont have an m3?)
    4.Reccomended
Whilst loading a rom at the option screen(slowmotion, cheat switch etc.) you will see in the bottom right hand corner there is a bit of text saying '[Y] Download play' this means that by (dont use touch screen for this it will probably run the game before you want it to)highlighting RUN or LOAD LAUNCH or whatever icon tells it to start the rom and instead of pressing A press Y this should fix most bugs with download play (although it isn't shown in the screenshots on first post).
so I reccomend atleast try running it by pressing Y (prefferably no cheats because well even though it probably wont affect anything you never know with codes and I cant run some games if cheat switch is on).

I want to know if anybod has an ARDS rom and patcher because there is a method to repair broken ARDSs and I wish to fix mine but the method requires the ARDS rom and in order to run it on the M3R it needs to be patched (this wasnt the case tih R4 and M3simply).

Mr.hanky might I ask that you update the screenshots to include download play and to explain the boot with Y option? unless you think I am wrong in its purpose

    Hope I helped you all.
Sorry my post was so late I hope you all get to read this

Sorry to be a bother, can anyone tell me where to find a GBA pack for the M3? I'd like to play GBA games, but to my knowledge I can't, all I have is the M3 and a rumble pack (which doesn't fit in my normal DS anyway).

Is there a way around this? If not, where can I buy a GBA pack for a normal (not "lite") DS?

    quite simply you can't.
In order to play gba roms on a DSOriginal you need to:
Free version(providing you have an old gba game the gba expansion pak and a y screwdriver):
Open the GBA expansion pak(comes with an M3R bundle) this is easy because it uses a positive(+) screwdriver
Remove the contents(the chip inside the case)
Open a GBA game(official manufactured one or if you can find one that isn't by all means use that)this is hard because it uses a (Y) screw and needs a special screwdriver to open
Replace the chip in the GBA cartridge with the one out of the gba expansion pak.

    OR

    Pay for version:
    This is what I reccommend.
Google EZ-Flash 3-in-1 (there are others but this is the one I know of)
Buy it(it looks like a GBA card)
The EZ-Flash is a ram-pak that works with M3R because it can use any external ram pak.
P.S. I'm not sure wether this is a lite cartridge or a GBA cartridge but you cannot buy a gba expansion pak ...to my knowledge anyway, it can only be bought as a M3R gba expansion pak. so if it is a lite pak you may end up following the steps above to place it into a gba cartridge anyway.
just checked yes its a lite cartridge so you need to remove the contents anyway.
Good luck getting a gba expansion pak on its own but heres the ezflash http://www.gameyeeeah.com/ezflash-in-expansion-pack-solution-for-ezflash-p-217.html. the removing the innards is well known and often practised by DSOriginal owners... however my original is old and worn so I'm getting a lit anyway(I have a gba expansion pak and lite rumble pak going to waste)

There is a full size version of the EZFlash 3-1 that unacquain mentioned, the problem is finding someone that sells them and has them in stock. You can see here that it exists, but it's out of stock :-(

Also, the GBA Expansion is being sold on it's own at RealHotStuff not sure about it's stock status, but i can't see anything saying it's not in stock. Obviously this is Lite sized so won't fit in your DS as it is (you can try what unacquain said though).

A third option is simply buy a cart meant to play GBA, none of the fancy slot-1 to slot-2 stuff, simply store all your GBA games on the GBA cart, also means you can play them on a normal GBA too.
A couple of good GBA cart are the EFA Linker and Elink.

    HELP!!! PLEASE!!!!

I have purchased an M3 Real card with the 2gb Micro sd card. It came with the software ready loaded. It will not work, all I get is the NO DS Card Inserted screen. I have unloaded the software and put in the v3.0 one from the link above, but it still doesn't work. I have blown it out, packed it with a piece of card but nothing seems to work. I have tried it with the games in an NDS folder and out as recommended by the people I purchased it from. Anyone have any ideas as to what I may be doing wrong?

If it is not being seen by the DS it doesn't matter what you do to the files as they don't even get looked at until the M3 loads.

It sounds like you have already tried blowing etc. So the only other thing i can think of is to clean the contacts, if it still does not work after that just assume it is a faulty unit and get the retailer to replace it.

Thanks very much I will give them a call in the morning.

Meant to ask, do the game files need to be in a folder or not? I had them in one called NDS and the main files were in one called SYSTEM. The tech guy told me to take everything out of folders including the system files and just have everything together on the first screen. (Sorry I am a computer phobic and don't know any technical names for things)
