Hi everyone, fantastic site / thread. Have so far passed about 25 of these m3ds simply through my hands- I find it easier to install everything for people or else they're straight on the phone with questions!!!

I usually go for a ver 1.03 system, moonshell 1.6 / 1.7, new skins to replace the awful calender skins and the IPOD homebrew nds file. I create 4 folders, GAMES, PICS, VIDEOS, MUSIC in the root and direct people to use these and they can't go wrong.

The only bugbear I have is the error message at the boot of Moonshell ! I guess it is looking for the splash ani(which is there on the sd card but never displays) - everybody seems to accept this error - why? can anyone shed any more light on it ?

I do not know the reason for the problem (mainly as I don't watch video on my DS so don't give two craps about MoonShell running perfectly) but as a guess I wuld say it is probably from where MoonShell does not fully support the M3/R4. It relies on the DLDI patch to work on the M3DSS, so it might not load the drivers in time to load the intro you're refering to? Dunno though, just guessing...

Just out of curiosity, where have you "passed about 25 of these m3ds simply through my hands" ?

Well I bought one for the wife, £50 with 1GB SanDisk and uk postage from a 2 UK websites (memory not sold by m3 seller). Then she showed her friends. Then I bought 5 from divineo (cn). Then they showed there friends... Why do you ask? Did I buy the first one from you and you wonder why I never came back ?

Just interested in where people sell them etc. I did use to sell them myself, sold about 15 to friends/family, about 50 through eBay. However eBay started pulling the listings, which isn't surprising considering what the M3 does, I didn't want to lose my PowerSeller status by selling more, so I stopped selling them.

They're a top gadget and it's rekindled the skinning and homebrew bug in me that has been dormant for too many years ! Only selling to local family and friends, couldn't be bothered with postage etc. Your guides were a major help in the early days of setting up the first few carts I got! thanyou! I honestly expected the software to get better, but the latest 12 calender theme gimmick is a pain, I've ended up writing a batch file to copy one over all 12 directories on the sd as it was becoming a pain ! I mean, they're clever developers these guys, but whoever chose those 12 skins!!! My son went mental on April 1st to be greeted with a pink flower themed ds first thing in the morning!

I found the 'pretty' themes quite crap too, immeditaly downloaded some half decent themes to use.

Uh, hey everyone. I was just curious if anyone else had this problem, whenever I try to take saves off my SD card and put them on my comp for storage, it gives me some error and won't let me do it. Anyone know how to get by this?

I'm thinking that maybe your card adapter is in the "locked" position. If that is the case, you wouldn't be able to remove or even add files or saves. And if so, simply slide the swith back to its "unlocked" position.

BTW, this is one fantastic gadget that I could not believe actually existed. I even brought my DS to work one day and my co-workers were so amazed that they all wanted to know where to get ahold of one. My question for all is simply this: where would I be able to go to change the themes? I kind of don't mind too much the seasonal ones on mine, but it is a bit much. Is there already a site out there that has pre-made themes or how easy is it to make my own?
Ok, more than one question and yet another. The website where I ordered mine already has a 1.04 update. Has anyone updated theirs to 1.04 and if so what's been added or changed?

Nope, that doesn't seem to be the problem. My SD card doesn't even have a switch on it.

    @MirageK
Not being able to remove the files from your card mmight be the warning signs of card corruption, I would run scandisk on your card to be sure. Copying saves should be a simple case of drag and drop.

    @LeetNoob
You can find where your themes are stored by going into the _system_ folder on your SD card, there are sites with premade themes available, however the site I used has recently dissappeared off the face of the earth, so your going to have to google them, also if you havn't found already you can manually select your theme by pressing 'Select' when at the main menu of the M3.

The main update that I know of in v1.04 is something related to GBA loader support, I believe this is for use in conjunction with the EZFlash 3-1, but I havn't researched it yet, and also I am currently low on money to buy the 3-1 device :(

I really need to get round to updating my guide with info relating to the lastest M3 updates...but meh, maybe when I put down my PSP ¬_¬

I've been watching this thread for a while, and decided to buy an M3 DS Simply from a small store in a local Chinese mall. I don't see any replacement shell with it as mentioned on the site, and I'm assuming it's the version that will run the English firmware... I've included an image of everything that came with it. It came with v1.03, and I just want to make sure it's not missing anything...

    Thanks for any information,

Taken from my guide at the beginning of the thread:
Despite being a small picture it does look like you have everything you should get.

    Heh, sorry, didn't notice that.
Well it's thanks to you I decided to get one :) Your guide was good, although I still need to buy a MicroSD card now...

By looking at that or the packaging is there a way to tell which firmware it supports? I assume it's English due to the English packaging and writing, but is it really? Is there a way to tell?

Oh, and that's a thumbnail, it's clickable :p. It was just extremely large so I used the thumbnail.

EDIT: btw, the site that you mention to download the firmware on your guide says the newest version is 1.03, while m3adapter.com has 1.04 available for download. And the site doesn't seem to work when I go to the 'File Repository'. Letting you know just in case :)

My mouse has no battery so I didn't realise it was clickable, i'm too lazy to grab some batteries out of my charger ¬_¬

Anyhows, chances are it's English firmware, i havn't seen the packaging of the Chinese model so dunno if the are any different (though I guess it would all be in Chinese)

Just download an English fimrware and stick it on the MicroSD card (when you get one), if it is a Chinese model it will just complain your using the wrong firmware.

EDIT: Just read your edit, the website isn't maintained by me, but if you could PM me the error message I will forward it on. I havn't checked the website recently so I am not aware what updates are on it, I also havn't updated my guide in a while to include info of the features found in newer firmwares, I might get round to it sometime next week, but I just bought a 360, so I might be busy :p (also thinking of how to pay this months rent, which went on the 360...)

This is probably a stupid question so apoligises in advance....

How much space do I need to leave on a 1gb card for it to operate, I've read on this thread that the firmware will need around 8mb. So far I'm planning to put around 900mb's worth of roms on the 1gb card, around 20 games. Will this leave enough space for the save game files do you think?

    Thank you

4MB is the minimum, I probably said 8MB to be safe.
You have left plenty of space on the card so you sould be ok, you can turn the M3 on to get to the menu and turn it of agian this should of created the 4MB file, you can then put as much on the card as you like.

To be honest I haven't even got the card yet, it should be here Monday, as it's my wifes' birthday Tuesday, I'm hoping to have it all ready for Tuesday morning :)

I know you said I've got plently of space, but do you know roughly how big each save file for a game is? Or does it vary wildly?

    Thanks for the reply :)

Save files are 512KB in size for every game.
