Depends what device, in the case of an M3 Perfect all you do is drag the GBA homebrew onto the media card (CF/SD/MiniSD/MicroSD) put it in your M3, that in slot-2 of the DS, turn it on and run it.

You can play gameboy games via an emulator.

so an m3 perfect would be able to play GBA games? what file format does the gba emulator have to be in order for the emulator to work on the ds? also does the m3 perfect work for DS games as well? reason for asking this is because the M3 perfect is alittle pricey, unless you know where i can find one cheaper.

Yes the M3 Perfect can play GBA games, it can also play patched DS games if you boot it in DS mode (using a Passcard3).

You can probably find more info in my other M3 guide (first link in sig) as this is for the M3 Perfect range.

    other than the m3 simply
the m3 perfect is probably my favorite homebrew/rom cart. it has the best rom support handsdown. (other than the simply).

I currently own the M3 DS Simply, and I was wondering if there was any way you could more than 12 themes at a time on my m3. If so, how?

    Thanks...

I havn't tested this, but try going to your themes folder and add another folder called theme13, put your theme in it and see if it works.

I was going to try it, but I'm afraid of wrecking my m3. Thats why I'm asking online.... If all else fails, I'll just stick to 12 themes at a time. Not very risky.

If it dosn't work the M3 will just ignore it, worst case scenario the M3 crashes for some reason, if this happens you just delete the new folder. Great thing about everything being run off the MicroSD is you can't screw up the M3 itself by messing around with stuff.

At first, it immediately diplayed the words, "Couldn't find SD/TF Card", so I reset it. I then reached the main screen and everything looked fine. But when I tried to switch to my 13th and 14th themees, it pretended as if they weren't there and simply moved on to "theme01" after "theme12". So thanks for your help, but I guees I can't. Thanks all!

Hey Mr. Hanky, glad to see you're still active on this topic, as I could do with some help from you right now.

The M3 DS Simply I purchased from model-gadget arrived today and by using this great topic I think I have managed to figure out how to use it properly.

However, I still have no idea what the "SanDisk microSD/TransFlash Adapter" and the "SanDisk microSD Apapter" are for. Note: even though they have almost the same name, they are actually 2 individual pieces of equipment.

All I seem to require is the DS Game Cartridge clone, the USB stick and the 2GB SD card.

So any information as to what the other 2 devices are for would be greatly appreciated.

On a smaller note, I have 5 folders on the software CD that came with the M3 DS Simply. These are:

    1) DS Manual
    2) M3.G6.SC SAVE TO M3DS Simply SAVE Transform
    3) M3DS Simply ROM Trimmer
    4) moonshell-1.5
    5) system v1.03

All I have copied to the SD card is folder number 5 - which contains moonshell anyway.

Do I need to copy folder numbers 2, 3 or 4 to the SD card, and if so, why?

Thanks in advance to any responses, and thanks for producing a great topic.

The "SanDisk microSD/TransFlash Adapter" and "SanDisk microSD Apapter" sound to me like adapters to allow you to use a MicroSD in a normal SD reader, you probably won't need to use them as the M3 comes with a microSD reader.

2 & 3 are both PC applications so you can either run them from the Cd or copy them to your hard drive, their names give away what they do (2 allows you to convert saves from older device to the M3 Simply format) (3 allows you to trim the padding from NDS games to make them smaller)

If Moonshell works then you can leave 4 alone too.

Ok thanks for clearing that up for me. Dunno why they sent those 2 devices with the package then, if I don't need it - better not have charged me for them lol.

I really am a beginner at this, but usually become efficient at working something just by trial and error, so I apologise if I ask something that seems obvious.

I just downloaded DSOrganize version 2.7 from dragonminded.com, but which file is for the M3 DS?
    1) DSOrganize.ds.gba <<< don't think it's that one
    2) DSOrganize.nds
    3) DSOrganize.sc.nds

Also, what do I do with the DSOrganize folder that contains folders such as CACHE, DAY, RESOURCES, SCRIBBLE etc, do I need to have this folder in the same window as one of the 3 files named above?

    Many thanks mate.

DSorganize is one of the harder to 'install' homebrews.

    1) DSOrganize.ds.gba <<<for older slot-2 devices
    2) DSOrganize.nds <<<for most slot-1 (and slot-2) devices
    3) DSOrganize.sc.nds <<<for slot-2 supercard

You want the second one "DSOrganize.nds" this can be placed anywhere on your microSD.

You also need the DSorganize folder to be copied to the root of the MicroSD.

And if you want to be able to load homebrew from the browser you also need to download the custom exec_stub file for the M3/R4 from here and overwrite the file in DSorganize/RESOURCES with this.

Yeah, the one you said worked. However, when it loads all I see is a screen with a cartoon cow dancing on it. Nothing seems to work from that screen.

I renamed the dsorganize.nds file to _DS_MSHL.NDS. Because I looked in your guide and it says thats how you make DSOrganize boot up when you select the middle icon, instead of moonshell booting up.

    Any ideas?

oops, I missed a big step - you need to DLDI patch the DSorganize.nds file, it won't work without it. I think I have explained how to do it somewhere in this thread.

You don't have to rename it to use it, thats just if you want to load it using the middle button instead of Moonshell, you can load the DSorganize.nds from the Game menu.

Spot on, Mr. Hanky. Works a treat, took a bit of figuring out though hehe.

I will now go ahead and download some ROMS to see if they play alright.

One problem I seem to have in general, is that I have folders and DIR's all over the place, some lead to places, others are just empty.

For example, I intend on creating 3 seperate folders, named MP3, Movies and ROMS. Where abouts would I store these folders?

Would I store MP3 and Movies folder in the moonshell folder, and the ROMS folder in the main window, that contains system etc?

Think I'm just about getting the hang of it, but thanks for your help.

Both Moonshell and the M3 menu have file browsers do you can place the folders wherever you like, I have MP3/Video/Text/NDS/GBA folders all in the root of my MicroSD.

The DSorganize folder, Moonshell folder and _system_ folder all have to be in the root, you can change these in Windows to be hidden and you won't see them in the M3 menu, which is useful for tidyness.

    Sorted, looks better now.

One last thing, then I will leave you in peace....for now lol.

Is there a way that I can allow the main DS menu to load first, i.e. GBA game, pictochat etc, before choosing the M3DS application.

This is because when I have the M3DS cartridge inserted it instantly boots that up, even though I may want to play a GBA game.

I'm just being picky now, as I could simply remove the cartridge and just boot the DS anyway, but if there's a way to do it, then it would be greatly appreciated.

No you can't, somehting to do with how the M3 loads prevents that from being possible, you can boot up the DS with it not plugged in then plug it in and the DS will ignore it.
