It couldn't be simpler (note, that I'm running winxp so instructions would be for that) when you put the microsd into the adapter that comes with the m3 and then insert that your system should automatically recognize it as "removable disk", and assign it a letter in my computer. Once this is up, just format the disk (right click, format) then install moonshell (there is an included version, or you can download it online) by putting all the files onto the "removable disk" and then drop all your nds roms into the root directory.

So I've tried getting help with this on my own thread and I got a program that "should" do it. And will one direction but not the other. I want to be able to take saves from original games and play them using my M3 DS Simply (able to do that using rein), But I also want to be able to take game saves from my simply and upload them onto a card. Can someone please help me do this. Sorry if the post seems irritated but I'm at my wits end. I keep getting single responses then my post drops off the face of the earth, so I figured either post in a sticky, or get my thread closed and ask me to post in the existing thread which everyone seems to have forgotten the existence of. Thanks.

i am a complete newbie. i got my R4 this morning and have spent the whole day trying to get it to work. its driving me crazy. i unzip the ds roms, put them on the memory card and the nwhen i try to play them it either says something like this type of format is currently not available to play or it just does nothing when i press A on a game to play it. It may be that the rom site i have used to download all my games was rubbish. Can anyone help me please????????

Do you know how to put back the catch on the M3 Simply if the sd card has been over inserted and the catch popped off?

MrModChips suggests this has happened to my M3 and it is easily rectified but haven't told me how after several requests!

Can you provide detailed instructions including how to locate the catch in the first place.

Hello everyone, I'm new to joining these forums but have been reading them for awhile. I have a Nintendo DS and a 2gb Micro SD card. Just yesterday I ordered my M3 Simply mod and now I have a few questions.

First of all I am on a mac :D. I have been downloading game roms onto my mac and all of my music/video is on my mac. I have a PC as well but would prefer to do everything on the Mac. But before I even ask questions about pc and mac, I have a few question about what to actually put on to the Micro SD.

So what I have done while waiting for my M3 Simply is download roms onto my mac. Once I download them, they are unzipped into a folder. Now my first question is...do I put that whole folder onto the micro SD or just the files that I can't open on my computer. Second, can I rename these folders so I can easily see what game it is?

My third question is about skins. I have found a website where I have found some skins I like. I downloaded one and opened up the folder to find 4 .bmp images. Is this all that I need and is this all that I drag to my Micro SD? How does it know to use this as a skin instead of to open it up as a image to look at in the imageviewer on the M3 Simply?

My last group of questions regards my pc and mac issue. I have searched for programs that will convert my videos to .dpg files for mac but have failed to find any so I guess I will just do that on my PC unless anyone knows of one. Another thing is that I believe that the downloadable firmware is only able to work on the PC. Is the firmware even neccassay? And is it okay if I use the PC to get the firmware but then use my mac to transfer all of the roms and mp3s to the micro SD?

My final question is about the FATs...what exactly are they and which one will I need to use?

Wow, that was a lot of typing xD...A fast answer would be great because I'd liek to know the answers before my M3 Simply arrives!

    ...Thanks much ~Lars

The firmware is updated by simply putting the files onto the m3, so it doesn't matter if it's from a pc or mac. Regarding the roms, the only files you need to put onto the SD are the ones with the .nds file extension. Skinning is just as easy as a firmware update, by dropping the files into the appropriate folder (system I believe) and updating the firmware does keep the m3 compatible with new stuff and allows updates to ba added to it. FAT is the type of format you will want to use for the microsd card, it's File Allocation Table, and specifically you want to use FAT16 not FAT32. If you want to have subfolders for your roms you can do that, and if you're using a lot of ROMs you could create folders based on the type of game you have in it, but that's a matter of personal preference. The m3 will work just as well with all the files dumped into the root directory.

Version 1.03 of the M3DSS firmware is now available. :O !

mr_hanky: For your guide, users simply copy the contents of the "M3_DS_Simply_System_v1.03_English" folder inside the *.zip to the root of the microSD card.

I have had a quick play with the new firmware.

It now has multiple theme support, the _system_ folder contains folders labled theme1, theme2 etc. Just stick the old skin files in one of these, use the Select button to change between themes.

The themes included with the download have calenders, but these are not functional (you cannot select them, they are just part of the picture)

That is the only change I have noticed from direct use, I'll see what else is different later.

Update: Apparently, the skins will cycle each month (hence the calenders) I hope there is a way to disable this as I don't want mine changing.

Moonshell 1.6 is included as well, modified to allow a soft reset back into firmware via the start button.

As a matter of fact you can. You can switch between the 12 themes in "Manual mode" (your selected theme will be remembered for next boot) or "Automatic mode", which will cycle monthly.

The new firmware text colour support is awesome, allowing for actual themes instead of just image skins. Now skinners can actually allow for readable text when using dark-coloured images!

Hi there, I am new to this, getting this done seems easy. With the step-by-step guide, I tried my best, yet I am failing.

To begin with, I have the latest firmware, and the latest Moonshell application. The menu loads giving me options of "Games" "Multimedia" & "Boot-2". I obviously selected "Games" since I just want to play downloaded games.

But when I load games, it prompts me the whole save file creation thing. Even if I pressed "Yes" or "Ignore", the game loads, but I get an empty screen! Some games give me just a "black" screen, some gives me like a "white" screen at the top screen.

I wonder what the problem is and I hope someone or anyone can help me. The card reader (USB) fails! Cause after I plug it in a few times, it stopped working for me (checked my USB ports with other hardware, they're perfectly fine).

Originally, this is my girlfriend, recently I just looked at it. Here is a few things I didn't check out:

    1) The mini SD card was not formatted (cause games were already in it) And does it matter if its Fat32 or Fat16?

    2) My girlfriend told me that her version of the M3 DS Simply is came in a small box (with a mini compact disc) Will this make a difference? As I have read the posts saying something about them being different.

    3) I am not sure if its the English hardware I have or Chinese, I copied the English menu firmware in it and it works giving me the selection menu screen (does this mean its the English version?)

There was a "saver" file in her SD Card, is this for the save file that the firmware creates? Cause previously her friend (who owns the EZ-Flash IV) copied her whole entire files on her Micro SD Card to her's, I deleted the EZ firmware folder, but I assume, the "saver folder is with it.

    Please help me out^^

    Your help will be appreciated!

    Thank you,
    Wind

If I don't intend to use moonshell, do I have to keep that folder on the MicroSD card?

I've just loaded the new firmware and am not too keen on the skins, is there a way to delete the said skins and replace them with others. I tried just deleting all of the loaded skins and replacing them with a downloaded skin but M3 just reverts to normal skin. Any help would be much appriciated. It would be great if you could just put skins you like in place of the loaded skins and then cycle through them like you can with the loaded skins

    Cheers
